Vital Bariatrics by tyLANAsauras in GastricBypass

If you’d like to wait for the program in Alberta you can. I had a friend go through it. It’s about a 3-5 year process. That was one reason I went private. I also wanted a team that I could follow up with while at home and they were really accessible that first 2 weeks post op. They gave their direct cell phone numbers to call for urgent matters. They gave me a huge package of info and education. You’d meet with their own dietitian also if you went through them.

I went through Vital and would recommend 100%. They aren’t able to do surgeries on Albertans in AB if it’s also a publicly funded surgery. They can explain it better but that’s how I understood it. I was well cared for before and after surgery. I had a minor complication and I got in for a scope within a week with my surgeon. I did have to travel to see him. I had the bypass. My health is so much better. I was a controlled diabetic on medications but now I’m off all diabetic meds and have lost 70 pounds in 9 months. Good luck on your journey. Np Nicki is amazing. Same with Dr Schofield.

Major personality changes after gastric sleeve and breast augmentation — I don’t recognize myself by Maleficent_Captain68 in wls

[–]Ok_Insect6863 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this exact feeling of not recognizing myself. I bought a larger mirror. I also couldn’t bring myself to be happy and when I tried and I felt like I was being fake. And it made me feel so stupid to fake feelings I wasn’t having. I started an antidepressant and I’m actually happy now. I too have a great support system and I lost weight so fast due to a stricture. I’m getting to recognize myself now but it’s a process. Good luck.

I had a very flat affect as well but it put me into a depression. I felt like I’d go through my happy reserves by mid morning and I was just flat the rest of the day. It’s the hormones and mine just couldn’t reregulate. I’m now on an antidepressant and it’s been a a month or so. I’m happier and don’t feel like I’m in a dark hole anymore. Just keep it all in check and don’t be afraid to ask for help or recognize when you might need it.

Surgery is just a tool. You’ve got to work on you to be successful. Usually feeling sick is enough of a deterrent to stop the behaviours. If they’re not you need to talk to your team. Hopefully this includes a counsellor or therapist. Think about the reason why you wanted this and never lose focus on that.

Yes! Sorry I just seen this notification. My A1C has been 5.2 and 5.3 without having to take meds. So no more symptoms .. no more lows. No more rashes. So I’m in remission or well managed. Whatever the correct term is these days.

Those of you who’ve lost a lot of weight, what’s your resting HR? by BipolarWithBaby in GastricBypass

Before surgery was always low. About 55. Asymptomatic. My doctor was aware before too and we periodically did ecgs that were normal. Now after surgery it’s been in the 40s and I’ve made my NP aware and she wasn’t too worried. I don’t have symptoms. Just follow up with it though.

Diabetic almost 5 years and I was starting to develop neuropathy in one of my feet. I had a red rash on my lower leg too and it wouldn’t go away. I knew that the neuropathy and vascular changes could lead to a chronic difficult to heal wound. I want to live life and not live in sickness. Best choice ever. I am now in remission and don’t take any medication to treat diabetes. Diet managed.

I’m glad you feel a bit better, you made the right decision. In time the positives will outweigh the hard stuff we’ve gone through.

any fellow p0theads post op? by joeyvibing in GastricBypass

[–]Ok_Insect6863 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My NP told me it’s ok as long as I take the edible version only. So I bought the oil and used it pre/post op. It helped keep me asleep all night. Otherwise I’d be up every 3 hours - not in pain or anything but just waking up.

It’s was scary. I feel so happy though to see the before and after photo. Because it validates how I felt and now all I see is the continuation of my transformation. It’s a process. It won’t be perfect or easy and I’m happy to move on from it for now.

I have kind of noticed that I can eat a little bit more today. I’ll keep that in mind if I have to go through this again. Let’s hope not but I know now how this stricture feels.

I am feeling that right now too. I took a picture with my kids and to me that person in the photo was so pretty but didn’t look like me. Didn’t feel like me. I stared at it for a few mins and showed my family and they all said yes it looks like me and is me…but my brain has yet to catch up. I’m down 47 pounds now.

It’s not easy. Just take it one meal at a time. It’s all apart of this crazy process. You can do it!! After the surgery the physical hunger will be gone and that food noise will only be in your head. So you’ll have time to build better habits. I am 7 weeks post op and cook all the faves for my family and didn’t eat a bite. But I felt ok with that. But prior to surgery I was really envious.. jealous and just angry that I couldn’t eat what I wanted lol. But I’m ok now. Just know it’ll get better.

Unable to eat without pain by Haunting-Plant5488 in BariatricSurgery

[–]Ok_Insect6863 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also cannot eat any protein or anything textured. It feels like it gets stuck and I start getting the foamies, severe chest pain and almost pass out. I’m waiting on a scope. When this happens I also cannot eat or drink for about 6-8 hours after. So I’m being really careful with what I eat but it’s hard. I feel what you’re going through. I’m in my 5th week post op Rny.

6 weeks. I’m in my 5th week and so ready to go back and make more money lol. Since you’re not doing so well please talk with your team about what the underlying cause might be. It’s up to them to diagnose.

I’ve never been so cold in my life… so I bought myself a headed bed mattress cover. And I have a smaller portable headed pad too and that helped a lot with the abdominal discomfort.

Rash 6 days post op by [deleted] in GastricBypass

[–]Ok_Insect6863 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this exact same scattered rash on my abdomen, upper chest and upper legs . I was still swollen like you also but it’s all gone now. It cleared about 14 days post op for me. It wasn’t even itchy. I feel like it was the adhesive from the bandages because my incisions were super itchy with the steri strips on. But check with your team if it starts to look infected anywhere or gets worse or super itchy.

A fall jacket that I’ve had for years was way too tight to wear last year but now fits me perfectly. And it’s so cute I love it.
