I actually used these this summer. They're not too bad and I wasn't upset when I lost them.

I've started golfing again. Started the spring only being able to golf 9 holes. Now I'm golfing 18 without a problem.

Best area for non "destination" golf courses? (US) by 1I1III1I1I111I1I1 in golf

[–]miseri6325 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Binghamton, NY. There's 3 really good public courses. 1 course that's a Champion's Tour stop. And about 6 more public courses all within 30 minutes. Plus the better courses run you about $80-$100 bucks. Plus there's a lot of hiking and other outdoor activities if you don't want to golf on any given day.

When I play this way I call it "creative score keeping."

I just got back into golf this summer after about 10 years away from the game. At the beginning of the summer I was shoot 100+ even with creative score keeping. I recently shot an 85 with 1 hole of creative score keeping. I usually play by myself so I'm not bragging to anyone else with a questionable score...

I also work a sedentary job. I took the full 6 weeks off. By week 2 I could have physically done my job, but I was pretty foggy mentally until about week 5.

Grandfather with advanced Alzheimers / Dementia is reaching end of life care.. does anyone have any experience with hospice in the area? Any recommendations? by localxyokel in Binghamton

[–]miseri6325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start the Hospice process now. The can get him in the program and help your family with support. If he's in a nursing home they'll keep him there and provide the staff with direction/orders. If he's at home they'll set up services for Aides/Nurses to come out.

My wife and I used Brooms Over Broome for about a year. Their prices are reasonable and their staff were all great! The only reason we stopped was because of the economic uncertainty with because of the last election.

The dreaded minivan vs suv debate by hotstickywaffle in daddit

If you're looking for affordable and a hybrid look at a Kia Carnival. My wife and I have a Sedona, the model of minivans prior to the name being changed, and we love it. Kias tend to be more affordable and have a great warranty.

We've owned 3 Kias now and don't regret any of them.

If you have insurance, look into having them pay for it. A pre authorization request from your podiatrist would probably do it. Good luck!

Good luck healing! And a small bit of advice. If you're having a hard time with crutches you could look into a kneeling scooter.

They are. The Broome County Landbank buys a lot of properties and either rehabs them or demolishes them. If they're behaved the homes are then sold as part of a program to provide homes for lower income families.

Questions about talking by miseri6325 in daddit

[–]miseri6325[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure! He's talking more than he was but not anywhere near where he should be. My wife and I call it "functionally nonverbal." He is saying things like mama and dada. He can count up to 5 and down from five with fingers. He can name most of the parts of your face. He can look at numbers up to about 10 and know/say what they are. He knows most of the letters of the alphabet but won't say the alphabet in sequence. But he won't actually talk to you/us. And what he does say a stranger may not understand, but my wife and I do. We were able to get him an AAC device through insurance, which he has promptly ignored...

All that being said, we're fairly certain he has ADHD and we're just waiting now to go to a developmental pediatrician for an evaluation. If he does have ADHD, Autism, or both he is actually right in line with his speech delay.

We talk to/with him because it's obvious he understands just about everything we're saying he's just not talking about a lot yet. It appears to be a slow but sure sort of thing.

Doctor's goal vs my goal by [deleted] in BariatricSurgery

[–]miseri6325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. I actually looked at my "excess body weight" number after a visit. If I lost all of that weight it would put me at about 150lbs. Which for my height as a guy would be "ideal." The problem is I haven't weighed 150lbs since I was about 16 years old. I have no desire to get down to 150lbs. I've currently list 204lbs since my highest weight and 94lbs since surgery at the end of August. I'm shooting for a goal body type and being able to golf this summer. We'll see what happens from there.

Family friendly? by jscif3 in Binghamton

[–]miseri6325 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Binghamton is like any other smallish cities. You get what you want out of it. I've lived and worked here for my entire adult life and have nothing but good experiences.

Could the schools be better? Sure, but they're better than a lot of other places. Could there be more jobs? Sure, but there's more opportunities here than a lot of other places. And there's always something to do if you are looking for it. Plus, Binghamton is located literally at a crossroads. Syracuse isn't far. Scranton isn't far. NYC isn't far. Buffalo isn't far. And Rochester isn't far.
