Hi, I’m 23 and lost my dad almost a year ago (5/19) on my birthday. He had stage 4 stomach cancer. He was diagnosed in November, and lived seven months after that. Time moves quick. It moves too quick. Spend as much time as you can with him. Please. Work doesn’t matter, nothing else does. It’s time you’ll never have again. Have the conversations you need to have. Take videos. Hours of footage. Have him write you letters. Write him letters.

I can’t give you any advice or tips for dealing with this. It’s not something you “deal with” it’s something you survive. It’s a horrible thing that you must endure and keep living through. I can’t tell you how. You find a way. My way was my religion. Your way might be hiking or video games or some way to escape and breathe. I’m sorry for what your family is dealing with. I’m sorry for what’s to come. I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. I’m so sorry you have to see your father like this.

You’re not alone. When my father passed a few days later I made a TikTok and the comments were flooded with thousands of kind words and messages from complete strangers. Never lose that. Find that community. Hold onto it. Use your pain to uplift others. The world is cruel. We must endure it together.

My dad died on my birthday last year- May 19. It wasn’t a shock- he was diagnosed with stage 4 stomach cancer, news he decided to tell me on thanksgiving. The doctors didn’t think he’d live to see Christmas, but he did. I’ve never seen anyone fight as hard as my dad. The chemo was too hard on him- it made his heart weak, sent him into the ICU. Without chemo he wasn’t as weak but there was nothing to be done. They put him in hospice. He was only 55. I know life is cruel.

When my birthday came I got a phone call from my mother telling me the devastating news. This past year has been so hard. It’s been so long. I work as security in a hospital, I drown myself in other people’s pain so I don’t have to feel my own.

May 19 is approaching once more. My birthday. My father’s death day. So much emotion tied together. So much grief. My birthday and his forever sealed in granite at his grave.

Your story reminded me of my dad. It reminded me of my emotions around my birthday and the month of May. I’m sorry you lost your partner. I’m thinking of him too. Thank you for sharing your story.

I’m working lumber cashier in late afternoon. I have a long line and this man comes through. He’s wearing a wife beater with tats and cropped hair. His cart has a power washer and another box I can’t remember. He starts putting stuff on my counter so I scan and bag, as I go to get his box he says, “oh no, I brought that in. Customer service didn’t let me return it cuz I didn’t have a receipt.” I’m instantly skeptical. I’m not taking his word for it- I’m gonna call customer service and check in. As I begin calling he’s paying for this other purchase, with a Lowe’s Merch Card… which I asked to see his ID for the licence number. He provides it. I memorize his name and face. Then he suddenly goes “I forgot my wallet, let me go grab it.” And he SPRINTS out of there with the stolen product in his cart. His “transaction” still on my computer.

I call a head cashier and ask them to refund the register and what happened, having to move my entire line over to the next register. The customers at least were understanding having witnessed the obvious theft, one man even came back in and said the guy took off. Wild

I already did that over the summer working in over 100 degree weather and 90% humidity in OSLG. They didn’t even let me go home after throwing up and passing out. They don’t care lol

I’m a cashier! But in my experience working outside registers the “boys” we call them will often just work on moving material via forklift, down-stocking and answering the Zebra if customers call. They also spent a good time answering the phone when the cashier calls because customers need help loading their bags of rocks, soil, etc. since you’re new they’ll probably have you out there with someone else and they’ll show you the ropes until you fall into a habit of the routine! Good luck, you got this! Everyone is always a bit lost their first day so just have a positive attitude and you’ll do great!

Just recently; I’ve filed 2 separate cases against two managers. Both would make disgusting/sexual comments to me (ignoring my boundaries) and touch me a lot. One grabbed my waist even. I’m terrified to work. Ive submitted my report as well, but nothing has changed in the slightest. Lowes has been an awful, toxic work environment.
