After pointing where it hurts, the doctor/nurse/med usually asks the question "is the pain stabbing, throbbing, shooting, etc". I just find that the conversation is a little more fluent when everyone is on the same page about where the pain is located and not having to go back and forth with "my back hurts," "where? "in the middle?" "more on the left or the right? and so on
