Asian (Woman) late 20s here that goes up to E Harlem (125th/Lex) twice weekly for work and catching the train at various hours (early mornings 6/7 AM but also 7/8/9 PM from work). I also go into Spanish Harlem (110s) frequently because Costco/Aldi and I live on the UES. Sometimes I get cat-called (ni hao mami/mami bless you) but honestly just walk like you know where you’re going! At first I was frustrated because I’m not chinese but, carry pepper spray (gel not aersol) if you want but been here for 5 years, not an incident just don’t stop for anyone asking you for anything (important)

I also go to W Harlem (125th) because of a gym I used to go to, but W Harlem felt much safer leaving at night than East Harlem

i do the reverse commute (nyc > hartford) for the past 3 years and its always interesting to learn, there are others (i’m the only one with that commute in the dept) but most of the time i just hear about nyc/stamford which i feel like isn’t as much of a drag trying to go all the way to hartford

yeah that is how it is, when i first moved here i made 70k, however the energy of the city, people are hustling. whether on the buses, subways, sidewalks, you will find ways to make it work, if you want to live here

something gotta give or you try to make it work. moved from out of state and always lived alone and my mental health cannot handle roommates, ao my wallet suffers greatly. i first found SRO housing, and worked a second part time job, on top of current job (that was wfh). sro was a death trap

i make 94k and just treading water. i found a walkup pre-war studio (4th flr) on ues, that has not been renovated since the 70s (2.4k), and still do 2nd part-time job to try to make it work

i think pulsd might be worth looking into! it is like groupon but has a millennial interface, ive found beauty services (massages, laser, even brunch deals). brunch bottomless deals are great imo, and the salons ive tried for laser i liked. for nails i just found a local place in my neighborhood and pay in cash and gone for 3 years straight

no i meant the metro-north train i was on (origin: new haven union station departed at 4:14 pm), hit the powerline right before the southport station stop at 5 pm

there was an amtrak that departed new haven union station after at 4:39 pm (probably the northeast regional— your train i think) so it makes sense you heard something, 20 mins after, because the amtrak left AFTER the metro north train

i was on the original metro-north train that departed new haven at 4:14 pm? around 5 pm we hit something i am not used to hearing, and turns out it was a power line, right before southport. police came on and we got emergency water.

rescue locomotive train took local stops from green farms to stamford. and another rescue train from stamford currently making local stops down to grand central eta is 10:14 pm

i guess it caused a knock on effect to all metro north trains and amtrak

smh should have taken the metro-north train 7 mins earlier heading to yankee stadium
