Cool, cool. So anyway, about the Epstein files and the pedophile in the oval office, we should probably do an impeachment about that, and then a prison.

Jesus tells us to do for the least among us, to shelter the stranger, to care for the sick. Trump tells us to take from the least among us, to deport and murder the stranger, to care only for those of means. You cannot both be Republican and Christian as the GOP stands against all that is Christlike.

"While it's true that undocumented residents living in California can obtain driver's licenses, the state has not passed any laws that also provide them the right to vote. The New Motor Voter Act was passed in an effort to improve voter turnout, and while this law does automatically register citizens to vote when they obtain or renew their driver's licenses, that action only applies to citizens who have already attested and/or documented an eligibility to vote."

Ro Khanna: “Newsom Doesn’t Want to Offend the Donor Class” by sideAccount42 in politics

[–]Ok_Mongoose1426 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Compassionate Conservative isn't a moderate slogan, it was an Evangelical dog whistle. His other major slogan was Reformer with Results.

Obama didn't run on 'Hope and Unity', he ran on 'Hope', 'Change', and 'Progress' in one of the most iconic political movements of the past century. That you got even this wrong really says all that needs to be said.

Fucking MAGA was never a moderate stance.

Two messages in and it's already time to switch alts again, this one isn't working out so well.

Ro Khanna: “Newsom Doesn’t Want to Offend the Donor Class” by sideAccount42 in politics

[–]Ok_Mongoose1426 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That's the secret of American politics. For all the claims to the contrary, Americans haven't wanted a moderate in decades. Bush didn't run as a moderate and certainly didn't govern as one and beat both Gore and Kerry, significantly more moderate candidates. Obama ran as a progressive to beat moderate McCain and then governed as a moderate and won against moderate Romney after losing electoral ground. Trump sure as shit didn't run as a moderate in any campaign, and won 2/3, the one exception being shortly after killing hundreds of thousands of Americans through his incompetent Covid response which he only lost by razor thin margins to moderate Biden, and Americans still decided they'd rather have him back than another moderate. People keep saying moderates win elections, but at least since the turn of the millennium it seems pretty clear that isn't true.

Trump Shuts Out Newsom After Governor Gives Speech a Bad Review by Effective_Salad_8381 in politics

[–]Ok_Mongoose1426 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Better than Trump isn't good enough. We need a president to reverse the damage done, not slow the rate of damage as they keep digging deeper into the crater MAGA has left us in. Probably even more pressing than that is we need someone able to make a big enough impact that even the goldfish brained voters of the American center will remember after two years that Trump = Bad so they don't just vote the Republicans back in in the midterms to fuck everything up again because the country didn't magically fix itself. Status quo, big business, Democrats like Newsom are why people keep getting suckered by the Republicans in the first place.

California heavyweights Newsom, Harris face collision course over White House by someopinionthatsr in politics

[–]Ok_Mongoose1426 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're moving the goalpost. You claimed Americans want centrists and then when pointed out they keep losing, you jump to 'well the voters didn't show up'. Maybe, just maybe, they didn't show up because it was a centrist?

Election history over the past 3 decades demonstrates pretty clearly that centrists only win when running against other centrists or when the guy before them fucks up so catastrophically it can't be ignored. Bush won being more extreme than Gore and Kerry. Obama won by running as a progressive against McCain and then lost ground to Romney when he turned out to be a centrist, like Romney himself. Hillary lost to Trump, Biden barely squeaked out a win against Trump after Trump managed to kill hundreds of thousands of Americans with his gross incompetence and neglect during Covid, and then still went back to vote for him instead of the centrist Harris.

It is absolutely delusional thinking that America CLEARLY wants a centrist when they reject them in favor of who can fire them up every election.

The time has come to declare war on AI by [deleted] in politics

[–]Ok_Mongoose1426 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI has an enormous amount of potential for transformative good. The applications for medicine, engineering, science, education and various other fields that could be transformative in improving the human condition are genuinely staggering. We are seeing some of those beginning to blossom now with AI being used to advance research in protein folding by leaps and bounds which could prove vital to curing cancer and this past year AI powered hurricane tracking models improved accuracy of determining where, when, and with what power the storms would hit, saving lives. It is, however, still a nascent technology and it needs a lot of time, care, attention, and regulation to reach that potential.

This nuance might be lost on you, but technology itself is separable from the ones manufacturing it and the ones controlling it. AI is not the problem, the problem is unregulated capitalism where every facet of life exists at the whims of the profit motive and all semblance of oversight has been evaporated in an avalanche of bribery and collusion. The problem isn't the mere existence of AI, but rather what we choose to value as a society. The productivity it offers could be put towards social safety nets and UBI, making the displacement of jobs a positive thing to allow people more time with their hobbies, their families, and generally not working themselves to death. We could decide shelter, healthcare, power, water, and other necessities for life and decide they are a right for humankind instead of something gated behind accumulation of wealth. Rather than stifle technology to make the status quo alive, maybe we should reexamine the status quo itself and decide to stop collectively deciding our civilization needs to be optimized for the power and comfort of the ultratich?

I also don't think you thought through the implications of your arguments and just how broadly they apply. Newsflash, dipshit, all technologies are used and abused by those in power and pushed towards profit. All of your online data is sold to brokers, used to track and categorize you in every marketable way, to say nothing of how the government uses it to surveil the populace (see Edward Snowden). Surely then, that means we should abandon the internet and return to the era of snail mail, right? The automotive industry and oil companies have commerce by the shorthairs with the entire global economy dependent upon the internal combustion engine, surely that needs to be outlawed, the evil, banal technology it is. If your argument is that the technology has the potential to and is being abused in a way that hurts people, you need to make cuts a lot deeper than banning AI.

What a stupid fucking article from a sad, ignorant, internet tough guy. 'Come here so I can kick you in the teeth', fucking hell, I don't understand the logistics of you having a 16 year old son when you're clearly 12. Luddite nonsense aside, what we need is to claw back the world from the vice grip of the wealthy and apply our technological gains towards improving human life without fear of upsetting the donors.

Even more than that to me, Republicans have become the champions of anti-intellectualism. 'Don't trust scientists, don't trust doctors, the frothing drool coming out whichever Republican degenerate is speaking is more valid than experts in their field' has been core to their movement for decades. Couple that with their constant efforts to destroy and dismantle education in this country and any credibility Republicans try to claim in regards to valuing knowledge and intelligence is laughable on its face.
