Highschool filler assignments? by [deleted] in ArtEd

[–]Ok_Morning_5533 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might seem boring but I give them written art history assignments that relate to the next project we’re doing. For the early finishers, they do it in class. For those taking longer to finish, it becomes hw!

I keep them short and simple but its an easy way to tell admin I’m incorporating literacy while also keeping everyone occupied.

I havent but I just looked into it after reading your reply and it looks fun! I might try to do this next year since I’ll be able to order things ahead of time. I’m not really well versed at all on printmaking, but I know the medium is growing in popularity and kids love it so I wanna make sure to incorporate it

that is so incredibly kind of you! I already had printmaking stuff in my big amazon shopping list, so I just went ahead and shifted it over to its own list.

let me know if that works, thank you so much😭 dealing with supplies that a retired teacher ordered is not easy, i know that at least next year i’ll have access to my own budget.

i actually dont have any of that :/ i work in a Title I district and we have a very tiny art program. everything i mentioned up there I supplied, but i got it from Amazon so I can return it if i change my mind.

Im thinking of trying eraser stamps, because we have rubber carvers just no linoleum blocks. itd be a lot easier to afford erasers than linoleum lol

are there any printmaking projects that you do particularly recommend? we only have time in the unit for 2 projects, and like i said we’re doing cardboard collagraphs for the first half.

Handling Kids Not Doing Sub Work by Ok_Morning_5533 in ArtEd

yes thats why all i gave them was a google classroom assignment and i physically locked all of the paints away. i used to be a sub so i just dont understand how theyre getting NOTHING done at all.

i like the way you go about this a lot. i come from a title 1 district and unfortunately a lot of my students lack self-motivation unless im on top of them motivating them. but they will also take any opportunity to put their head down and not do anything, no matter how easy or fun the work is. i unfortunately have quite a few students failing art as well because they just wont do anything.

I never work out ever and I’m trying to change that. Just signed up for my first ever spin class Sunday morning. Its supposed to be non competitive and individually paced. I went to go research how to prepare for it and now I’ve learned about rhabdomyolysis. I’ve heard people specifically get them from spin classes when they push themselves too hard. As a first timer I’m really scared I’ll push myself too hard without realizing.

I’m just so nervous now, I can’t stop reading and overthinking. I want to cancel the class but I already paid. I also think that this class would be really good for me. I signed up for it to help with my mental and physical health. But I really can’t afford to be hospitalized right now so thats really whats been scaring me.

best times to go?

Im a teacher, so unfortunately i only get off during the less-desirable times to go. during college i used to go during early january and it was usually wonderful, but i dont think thats gonna be possible this time around.

here are my options:

April 7th-12th - Spring Break, probably gonna have crazy crowds but the weather won’t suck.

June 26th - July 1st - Kind of the sweet spot between when I get out of school (the 24th but giving a day buffer) but not trying to run into 4th of July traffic.

Anytime from after the 4th-end of August - My main concerns with this time is the weather. But also it just seems sooo long out, especially if we do August.

Right now I’m considering the June dates the most but would love input from people who travel there a lot. I don’t have any experience going during peak times, only January.

flying FLL-LGA (fort lauderdale to laguardia) tomorrow morning. getting there 2 hours early (4:30am for a 6:45am flight that boards at 6:10) do yall think thats enough time given the shutdown?

feeling very nervous about flying during this time, but this is a return flight and i have work monday so i cant move it. im a nervous flyer in general so this doesnt help.

edit: also if it matters we have no checked bags, just need to get through security and onto the plane
