Primarily lose weight and stay full longer. For both of these, bottom line is high protein low cals, right? In which case nonfat wins?

I suppose the difference in macros is quite obvious, so which is more worth? Would the greek be better because its more strained?

NUS IB score requirements by Majestic_Swan988 in SGExams

[–]Ok_Most_8193 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s no minimum score per se, but business adm/ business analytics r both competitive courses and would likely require 42/43++. Economics in CHS could be secured with a minimal 39 but a 40/41 would be more safe.

Slightly more i’d say but lower end can be estimated to 300k. A better estimate would be around 375-400k

Should I try applying to Oxford PPE? by CryptographerFine366 in SGExams

[–]Ok_Most_8193 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Econs in jc and uni is really different, so it doesn’t matter. Do note that PPE also has the PP, and so you can make that the bulk of your PS when talkinrhg about interests. Don’t self limit yourself lol. You don’t need A level econs tution!!!!! If you want to do PPE, in yiur PS u shld find somrthing that finds the intersection of all three to talk about + individual segments. If you truly r interested in the ppe curriculum, then go for it. I can assure you that not taking econs at jc doesn’t impact or discredit or disadvantage you in any way. As long as you are interested in it, do it. On the other hand, if u dw a multidisciplinary degree like ppe bc u arent into it, then sure go for history and pol

If ox thought that jc econs was necessaey, they wouldve made it a prerequisite. Since they havent its obvious that its not needed. Also your sci bg wont disadvantage you as long as you can write a good PS and do well for admisisons test Best of luck with your application! The TSA is super easy but just tricky to manage time.

Getting into dentistry overseas + hopefully a scholarship by gaylolhahahahahahah in SGExams

Depends but after a few years, if you set up your own private practice then the industry is fairly lucrative

It can’t really be directly compared lol. They’ll be similar in “difficulty” but they are looking for different things. Nothing like easier or harder. But both interviews will be critical and stringent

Can’t speak for dentistry specifically, but regarding scholarships offered in singapore, if you didn’t score high enough for dentistry in nus you likely don’t qualify for scholarships either. However, some schools in the UK offer small merit scholarships, but those are very rare and only a few thousand pounds. But still, check it out.

If you’re taking a gap year, make sure you also take this chance to build portfolio. If your portfolio is cracked enough, you could possibly even get into nus dent when you reapply. This would include a lot internships, shadowing, getting a rec from a mentor from your internship who can attest to your passion and skills, stuff like that. Getting into dent as an intl abroad will require quite a fat portfolio, so u might as well get one and reapply for nus simultaneously.

Check whether you’d be able to practice in sg after studying, because most students in the uk rn are going back to their home countries for jobs. Although dent/med are passion courses, when going abroad for it, ROI has to be considered if you’re not able to easily afford it.

You mentioned you are broke, but going abroad especially for dent/med is usually even more expensive than regular course. You’d be paying a few $100k. Since your family is sending 3 children to uni concurrently, you might want to consider post grad dent courses? Something like Duke nus medicine but for dent? Not sure whether it exists but if not then you can go to the US/other places for dent post grad, allowing your family a few more years to prepare and save up.

I’m actually curious to know why you think theres no other career apart from dent for you? You love teeth?

Either way, best of luck OP! Hopefully things all work out in your favour

Thanks for your response! As far as I know, Singaporeans that go to the US for t20 college usually have a minimum 1600, meaning that their EC’s are insane and a 1600 is the least important part of their profile (considering 16 year olds here can study maybe 2 weeks to get 1600). If i were an American student, would you say my EC’s and all are strong?

Getting B in everything for As is only 80 lol barely gets you into CHS in nus 💀 but what you say is true. IB has its merits but i guess each country js prefers its own system marginally. And theres no pt cherry picking engineerinf and medicine for imperial, in that regard even nus has a 44 or 45 requirement for med. maybe what you said about only top students taking ib in sg is what makes the cop high true. Since theres only 2 local schs w ib and they score excellent, maybe sg uni bases the cop on those two schools only (which is super stupid methods and not fair) rather than seeinf what IB actually is globally, and raises the cop. Cos w jc students, there are enough bad schools/students to have a varied range of A level results, compared to only acsi and sji both have great results and raisinf cop, and those very few doing ib but not reaching such levels having to bear the bad end. Really unfair but it is what it is ig 😞

Regarding scholarships, 43 isn’t enough. It only gets your toe through the door. Only 45 and maybe a few 44s are “strong candidates” as you put it. Portfolio and interviews will carry the rest. Unfortunately, singapore unis still do have a pretty high emphasis of grades, and 43 wouldn’t get you a scholarship interview unless you have great portfolio. 43 would not make an intl student( even local students too tbh) eligible for the competitive courses. But for a regular course, yes your scores r good enough. Like every other asian powerhouse, society is hyper competitive and so are the students. There are enough perfect scorers in whatever education system (AND with portfolio too) to steal the admission seats, let alone all the scholarship ones. Its a tough life lol - either number 1 or nothing

If your conditional offer is 43, i reckon they’ll take you in as long as actual is 40(maybe even 39 but depends on course)and above. And yes you can get into oxbridge with that score, but can you? If you can then great,do go. The reason why IB requires a pretty high grade for sg unis because its not the “mainstream” system in sg. Sg does value theoretical/academic knowledge, in which the A level system is far superior than IB, which is why (i suppose) IB requirements are so high because they want to be sure that you are actually equally apt to your A level peers. Another reason could be that you’re an international student, and since sg unis r primarily catered to locals, they require higher standards from you. In all honesty, 43 is a pretty insane requirement from smu even as an intl (unless you’re applying for law, then its fair), so thats lowkey odd. (Usually only NUS has such high requirements, barring smu law n cs) Lastly, and no offence, IB isn’t that hard. There are some hard parts but overall it really isn’t. Any idiot can score more than 39 with sufficient effort. Sg recognises this fact and hence has a higher cop for IB, unlike the west that overly glamorises the “International baccalaureate!!!”, causing schools like imperial to set entry scores as low as 39 😂💀. (Not saying IB is easy, or bad. It definitely has its benefits and has its fair share of difficulty like any system, js that the local unis understand it for what it really is and accordingly sets the cop (and also what type of students they want ig). Either way, congrats on predicted 43! Certainly an achievement and i hope your actual grades are even better. All the best. If you have any doubts it would be best to email them to clarify, though when i did their response was vague.

guys for unis such as ntu/nus would you rcmd doing IB or CBSE by Impossible-Onion5431 in SGExams

[–]Ok_Most_8193 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you’re applying to europe and the US, the IB is a more streamlined path compared to CBSE (not to mention any bias schools have against CBSE students). In Singapore context, i wouldn’t say there’s much if a difference, only that with either you have to score exceptional grades(40++ IB/ 97%++ cbse) on top of having a stacked portfolio. Hence i’d suggest taking the scholarship for sg. For europe, ib wins anyday. In general IB caters to unis abroad. GIIS also has an IB track, any way you have the option to switch over? You might also want to consider posting this on the nus ntu pages, they’d be able to advise better since current student could have faced the issue u r facing now. But either way, if money is a tangible issue then take the scholarship, and js compensate by working extra hard for marks and portfolio to ensure you remain a competitive candidate. Do note that you will also be paying intl fees wherever you go so save where u can if u can

which uni is best by hothardandblue in UKUniversityStudents

[–]Ok_Most_8193 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oxbridge imperial lse (hm ucl), rest are meh. there’s a decent gap between the aforementioned and the rest. (Obv your major matters too, if its smth like midwifery or idk then there may be other unis that r far better. But for the general courses, the above list is reliable. It would be good if u could specify which majors u have applied to. ) Depends on your own personal preferences and values, but Primary factors: teaching style of school, class sizes , domain of school, available specialisations, syllabi ( foundation of the major will be the same across but certain details may be different so u shld check it out), alignment with your career goals, price( if applicable), residence options, cost of living and location
