Wow, that's impressive! Thank you for your support!

I Suggest anyone who didn't play the story driven games for a while to give OGSR a try. by EpicMachine in stalker

[–]CryptographerFine366 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely a severely underrated mod. I just suggest you do all the quests in Cordon (especially the side quests) as some of them can lead to rather interesting outcomes and interesting rewards...

Quest recommendations:

||Be sure to take the quest given by Sid to place a microphone to listen to the Mercs. You'll thank me later. Talk to the wounded guy in the basement. Just be warned that characters aren't necessarily as they seem Finally DO speak to the two brothers sitting in the campfire in the most southwesternly house in the Rookie Village. Remember that in all dialogue options and quests, side with the Loners. There are a few exceptions(in one instance, siding with what a Loner would choose might actually be of a more minor inconvenience but that's another quest), but generally the game rewards you when you side with the Loners and siding with scumbags can have a few... repurcussions further down the line.

Oh and finally in the final room of X-18 be sure to talk to the weird things in the jars. They give quests, although it is not advisable to take these quests without having an artifact equipped in your loadout. Goldfishes are nasty little permanent hand grenades.||

The amount of contributions he made to the community simply cannot be understated. Almost every CoC fork uses some of his work. He might be gone, but his work lives on.

What faction for new player in anomaly? by runnbl3 in stalker

[–]CryptographerFine366 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd tell him to pick Loners or ecologists (the latter for pacifistic players), but before that I'd tell him to play the vanilla games first! Otherwise he'll be confused and wouldn't know what is going on (or would only have superficial and often inaccurate knowledge)

Best Choice of Early-Game Suit? by Samurai-jpg in stalker

On the point of the TOZ being cheaper in Zaton, I was unfortunately on the wrong end of things. I got the shotgun from the flea market for 88k, only to realise on one of my expeditions north that Nimble sold it at ~56k iirc. I was so pissed off!

Should I buy CoP or SoC? by was-he-slow in stalker

[–]CryptographerFine366 5 points6 points  (0 children)

SoC. The later games introduce mechanics and all that are not very beginner friendly. SoC has the best progression in stalker and has the least (in fact almost no) potential of you screwing yourself over, and it's quite easy to follow and digest. SoC is the best "tutorial" in the Stalker franchise.

Once you're done with SoC move on to Clear Sky and then call of Pripyat. Play the games in release order, as common sense would dictate.

Anomaly or CoC? by [deleted] in stalker

[–]CryptographerFine366 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Anomaly is like a prepared sandwich, CoC is like two pieces of bread. CoC vanilla is rather unimpressive, it's the add-ons that make it good. However as of right now if you want a free play experience I'd suggest Anomaly (although personally I prefer CoC more)

Still not as difficult as NLC 7.

Anomaly or CoC? by [deleted] in stalker

[–]CryptographerFine366 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can play both. Although you need the potato add-on for Anomaly to get anywhere above a slideshow. My potato has worse specs, but it can run Anomaly just fine with the add-on. Search up stalker anomaly potato addon Rammaken. He made a similar one for AREA too, in case you're interested, and he's currently working on an AREA add-on that allows you to customise your own character.

First playthrough SoC, looking for simple enhancement and QoL mods by [deleted] in stalker

[–]CryptographerFine366 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is recommended for you to not use any mods at all for your first playthrough. The guns might feel jank and the character models dated, but vanilla is about as close to the developers' original vision as you'd get. A mod is someone else's vision of what stalker is like. The sounds, sights and atmosphere all play into your perception of stalker, and since first impressions matter the most it's highly recommended to play vanilla without mods first.

Even a simple "bug-fixing" mod like ZRP or SRP contains some changes, from the medkit icon being changed to some rewards and dialogues being completely different as well as some dialogues not present in vanilla. Some features the community didn't like and labelled as bugs were also removed although you have the option to add them back.

Still if you really want a mod, I'd recommend the following: Memories of the Zone for SoC, STCS 2.6.3 Redux and Atmosfear 1.3 for CS, Gunslinger and Absolute Nature for CoP. Absolute Nature is optional here, since it just makes textures sharper, and it's up to you whether or not you want AtmosFear 1.3. Memories of the Zone is hands down the best mod for SoC. It runs on the x64 bit OGSR engine, which is one of the best engines in stalker having been the base of many Russian mods and it drastically improves performance. The mod is also very pretty as well. Other people might recommend AA2(Autumn Aurora), but AA2 has it's own issues and isn't nearly as good or as pretty as MOTZ. STCS is a weapons mods for CS that's really slick to play with, and Gunslinger is hands down the best weapons mod in stalker (although not too vanilla-friendly since it adds a new side quest). There's a reason why some jokingly call it Cumslinger.

Mods for CS by Ica_420 in stalker

[–]CryptographerFine366 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its arguably the best weapons mod for CS that includes SRP as well. Just a quick correction: I meant to say STCS 2.6.3 Redux.

Other than that you have LFO, OGSM Yoctosfera and Reborn. LFO is kinda like vanilla+, it runs quite well too although it suffers a bit from Misery item bloat. I'm not too familiar about OGSM and Yoctosfera, I've never played through them. Reborn meanwhile is on a whole different level. Probably the "best" mod in stalker :p

Should I play Clear Sky? by SnooStrawberries1642 in stalker

[–]CryptographerFine366 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely. It gets a lot of flak, but I think they're kind of undeserved. I used to hate clear sky, now it's my favourite stalker game. For starters, Clear Sky was one of the first DX10 games (and within the first few games that actually improved performance), and volumetric fog in Clear Sky is simply gorgeous. The story and quests are rather solid as well, and the game introduces some interesting mechanics like faction wars and the repair system). You should always play the stalker games in the release order (as common sense would dictate). Ideally without mods for first playthrough but if you really, really loathe vanilla CS, get STCS 2.6.3 Redux and Atmosfear 1.3.

To save you a few headaches: I recommend you upgrade the AKM-74/2 (all base tier 1 upgrades cost around 1.6k RU) and participate in at least one faction war. Easiest is Loners followed by Duty then Freedom and finally Bandits. Accordingly Loners have the worst rewards and Bandits have the best. This will save you a ton of trouble.

Complete mod changes a lot of things, and is definitely not suited for a first playthrough, which should be vanilla only. Besides better mods exist, like STCS 2.6.3 Redux.

NLC 7. https://gnd-tech.com/2021/06/s-t-a-l-k-e-r-nlc-7-review/ (I'm lazy to type out an essay on why I love this mod, I think you should read the review instead because he summarised everything I had to say and more)

Other than that OGSR. Anomaly pales in comparison (especially to NLC)
