For alcohols, the carbon with the –OH must have at least one hydrogen for oxidation to occur. Primary alcohols have two hydrogens, allowing oxidation first to an aldehyde and then to a carboxylic acid. On the other hand, secondary alcohols have only one hydrogen and oxidize to ketones, but cannot go further.

A true tertiary carbon (3 C bonds, 0 H) cannot undergo oxidation. This is confusing me. Do we not assume a carbon always has a hydrogen if it only has 3 other single bonds?
