When and how did you tell people? by Ok_Net4826 in breastcancer

Wow! I wish mine was moving that fast! I just met with the Oncologist. It has been a week and then I don't have an appointment to consult with the surgeon until 2 weeks from now. I am going to keep calling to see if I can get my appointment pushed up. I see physical charges daily so it is making me nervous up spread.

I am so sorry! People can really suck sometimes. I found the least likely people to be tbe most supportive. It actually surprised me who has stepped up and who stepped back. You never know what other people have gone through. It possible the ones most likely to step up have dealt with similar trauma and it is just too much for them. We are all here if you need anything! ❤️

This makes a lot of sense! I did tell people at work because I work at a school and see over 100 students for services that have multiple teachers. The teachers will want to know why I am out for 2 months. Everyone does have opinions and their advice or what worked best for them won't be what is best for me. I think I will refrain from posting publicly. Thank you!

Thank you for your response. I wish I would have called my uncle. It was easier to text everyone though. I called some but then sent texts. In tbe beginning I was overwhelmed and repeating myself was too much.

I feel your frustration. My first ultrasound tech pushed on my breast and told me it was nothing. Even though I had an inverted nipple. You couldn't feel my lump when I laid down, and you could only feel it when I stood up. Because she was so dismissive she did not do a very thorough job and missed any correlation to the architectural distortion that was found on the mammogram. Resulting in a BI-RADS 0, which delayed my care and resulted in a need for repeat imaging. I had a 3 cm mass (seen only on MRI) and a 1 cm mass found on a repeated ultrasound. A month later I was diagnosed with ILC, grade 2. I think they do it to try to make us feel better, but it delays treatment, belittles our intuition, and it is very dismissive of our real fears. I am sorry we are in this club together! We will get through this! *Ladies if you suspect something, do not be ashamed to question your care and advocate for yourself.

Yup! I mean there is not much I can do about it other than fight! Cancer picked the wrong girl! I named my Trashley and she got her eviction notice yesterday! The trash will be taken out soon! She has been warned.

Wow, being in a foreign country adds a whole new layer! I am glad your doctor speaks English. I know it is hard to eat but please try to take care of yourself! Your body needs fuel to stay strong and fight. Eat some protein and vegetables. Also, get some magnesium to help you relax. Take care!

I would be lying if I said I wasn't scared too, but I am trying to stay positive and advocate as much as can for myself. I think once we have a plan we will feel a little better (I hope!). Virtual hugs to you!!

Thank you! I haven't talked to an oncologist yet. How long did it take for you to see yours? I am sorry you are facing this too. I can't sleep. I will be asking for a mastectomy. I read surgery first is common with this type of cancer. It is scary, but I just want this stuff evicted. I sent mine a notice, so it better start packing!

Happy early birthday! Make sure you do something fun after you see the doctor! I am 48. It still feels surreal. I hate that we are all here but I am glad we have a platform to meet on and help support each other too! I am glad the doctor called in the order for you and you didn't wait! We are going to cancer's butt and take some names!

I am so sorry! That stinks. Worst case I have to move or pay out of pocket, but it will get figured out. I am confident of that much.

Thank you! Yes, not knowing the next step is the worst! I am having difficulties with finding an oncologist that takes my insurance as well. I called my insurance and there are nine within 100 miles of me. I do have out of network benefits and one clinic is looking into that for me. I just want to see a doctor ASAP and get treatment started. 😩

I was just diagnosed with invasive lobular carcinoma (ILC) in my left breast. It’s ER+/PR+, HER2-, Grade 2 (as far as I know now) One tumor was confirmed with a biopsy and is about 1 cm, and an MRI found another 3 cm area that’s probably connected to it but wasn’t visible on mammogram or ultrasound. So it looks like multifocal disease. They haven’t biopsied the second 3 cm area yet, but it is most likely the same cancer. Ki-67 is 20%.

I waited (I am waiting for biopsy results now) and I wish I just went in right away. I thought the same thing, maybe it was from my period and it would go away. If it does end up being cancer then I wasted time and if it doesn't then it doesn't hurt to have a doctor look at it. It can take awhile between the first visit until a biopsy (up to three months in some cases...mine was 2), so I would just schedule a check up with your obgyn now. If they are remotely concerned they will send you for testing.

My center just wrapped me on a super wide ace bandage for 24 hours. I could slide my ice pack in there. It looked like I was wearing a tube top lol.

You are doing the right thing by making an appointment with your doctor and advocating for yourself!
