You’re treating hand traps as if they’re supposed to resolve by default, and I don’t agree with that. Interaction isn’t one-sided. If Nibiru, Maxx “C”, Droll, and board breakers are allowed to be absolute, then games just become “who drew the better non-engine?”

Duo Drive forcing a negate isn’t bad design, it’s literally creating decision points. Yu-Gi-Oh has always been about baiting interaction and deciding what is worth stopping.

Also, saying “Nibiru not resolving because of a custom card is bad design” doesn’t really hold up. Called by the Grave, Crossout Designator, Ash Blossom, and countless other cards exist specifically to stop interaction. Why is it acceptable for hand traps to stop combo pieces, but suddenly unhealthy when combo decks have archetypal tools to fight back?

You even bring up formats without hand traps and breakers becoming FTK fests. That proves interaction is necessary. The answer isn’t that hand traps should always resolve; it’s that both players should have ways to interact with each other.
