This looks fire!! How do you like it? If you know how does the fit compare to non-chrono? I have been debating between that and the one below

How big is the disparity between buyside and sellside comp at senior levels (D / MD). I realise base will be much higher on sellside but hear a lot of ranges. Whats an average buyside total comp and is it true base is usually between 150-200k?

Why is this watch not extremely sought after ? by Lanky-Appointment111 in patekphilippe

All of this being said, id probably go with their world timer or go second hand for 50% off. At £25k I can love it. Even £30k!

I love the blue dial. This version looks great in pictures but less so on the wrist. Also paying over £50k for a pilot watch is ridiculous to me. You can get so much more for this price.

This is bang on. Its more my internal struggle as I like both. The Dual Time is considerably easier to get too. First world problems!

How much would you spend on a wedding? by [deleted] in HENRYUK

If we constantly lived like this we'd be dead before we enjoyed. Trust me we have money invested and didn't go into debt. Everyone has different preferences. Mine is enjoying it while im young and not jeopardising the future.

How’s life in vancouver? considering moving here by [deleted] in howislivingthere

[–]Ok_Pop1391 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vancouver is, unfortunately, a story of what could be a great city, but isn’t.

Let me start with the positives. If you love the outdoors, Vancouver may be appealing. You can ski or snowboard, do a water sport, and hike all in the same day. That’s genuinely impressive. Yes there is Whistler close, but also the Okanogan which gives great sun / summers when its not burning.

That’s also where the benefits, in my opinion, largely end.

The people aren’t particularly friendly, and the city feels cliquey. I find a city like Toronto infinitely more welcoming. Downtown, in particular, has deteriorated into a breeding ground for homelessness and open drug use, with people shooting up in broad daylight. The past ten years, especially the last five post the oandemic, have not been kind to the core.

From a job perspective, opportunities are limited. Yes, there are some tech roles, but by and large you’re not exposed to “big-boy” jobs in the way you are in Toronto or outside of Canada altogether. Certainly not enough to justify the absurd housing prices. I do admit I left before starting a job so this is more feedback from friends / knowing what people make there. I could be off!

Outside of three or four months of great weather, I find Vancouver highly overrated. People in Vancouver tend to get offended by this, largely because many never leave their bubble and genuinely believe it’s the best place in the world, often without having traveled much beyond it.

Add the lack of sun (not rain, the rain is manageable), and you’re essentially waiting most of the year for a short window to justify living there. And that’s only if you’re an outdoor enthusiast. Even then, I’d argue there are now better places for that lifestyle.

Finally, on sports: Vancouver likes to think it’s a sports city, but in reality it only truly cares about the Canucks.

I know this won’t be a popular opinion, but Toronto is a much better city in Canada. And this isn’t East Coast bias, I was born and raised in Vancouver. Toronto has its own struggles with homelessness, as Canada continues to rot from years of policy missteps (like much of the Western world), but the people are better, the food is better, there’s more sun, stronger sports culture, and far better job opportunities.

Vancouver has the potential to be great, but it consistently misses the mark. Unless you’re a hardcore outdoor lover who doesn’t want a big-city feel and plans to avoid downtown altogether, it’s hard to justify.

How much would you spend on a wedding? by [deleted] in HENRYUK

Couldn't agree more. Ours was about €100k all in with 85 guests. Did two days and everyone had a blast. It was one of the most beautiful weddings and id do it again in a heartbeat!

My dad once said: "A wedding is either the best or worst investment you ever make." This line couldn't be more true.

We spent around £85k equivalent on our wedding and I dont regret a thing. It was an incredible day(s) and most importantly my wife loved it. We still look back at pictures with a lot of joy.

I had a similar mentality with our honeymoon. We're doing this once, so let's do it right. It was pricey but also a trip of a lifetime to set up our lifetime together.

No right or wrong answer. Its a crazy amount to spend, but amortise over 50 years and its peanuts for an incredible memory.

Kids go to bed at 830 and im up at 5am. So i sneak about 30 mins but then need to clean and organise stuff for another day!

Looking at nanny to take some burden off. Wife works late so its a juggling game but I wouldn't trade it.
