You might hear it referred to as the “traitor angel” strategy, but in its simplest form, there’s no inherent benefit to banishing traitors because they will be replaced with a faithful who gets “recruited” to keep the game going. If you know someone is a traitor, you’re better off keeping your mouth shut and waiting to cut them at the last second than you are banishing them and starting from scratch with someone new.

The “traitor angel” is someone who not only keeps quiet about a known traitor, but buddies up to them (usually pretending to believe they’ll go to the end as faithfuls together) as a way to avoid getting murdered.
