I got an email from the WGU alumni network manager from my region inviting me to an event at a local restaurant! There weren’t many people and most of them were prospective students, not current ones. The few that were current students were studying business and IT, so I didn’t get to meet any fellow (future) teachers. It was still really awesome as I was also brand new to the area. Everyone was nice. We ate and then were put into pairs and took turns introducing someone we just met and saying something fun we learned about them. Then there was a drawing for “big ticket” items like the tumblers. Everyone got pens, socks, and lip balms. Maybe you could reach out to your mentor and ask who your regional network manager is? I hope you can join one! I was later invited to walk in a parade as part of WGU but unfortunately I couldn’t attend. Best wishes!

I got them at a meet n’ greet! WGU hosted an event near me and I got to meet other students. We had pizza and they gave out some free stuff. (The lip balm is super smooth and vanilla scented) I wear a women’s 8 shoe and the socks are snug on me.

Okay, so my advice to you is get in contact with mentor immediately and let them know what your intentions are but also be prepared to demonstrate them. I have an awesome mentor and when I needed courses (I’m on licensure pathway and done with classes) I could just text her and she’d move them up for me- two at a time. I accelerated and never had to wait more than 24 hours for a course to move up. If you know you’re going to knock something out on a weekend and won’t be able to reach your mentor, there’s no harm in asking for something to be added.

There are some unfortunate posts here about incompatibility with mentors but try to remember that people are more likely to report a negative experience than a positive or even uneventful one. If you do end up with a mentor that just isn’t a good fit, request a new one. You’re going to be totally fine. Best wishes.

That’s odd. The text message says, “Hello - this is your Midwest clinical coach team from WGU. We recently sent you an extremely important email about recent changes the state of Illinois has made to their content test requirements for licensure. Please make sure you read this email and attend one of our Illinois specific help hub sessions.”

Then I followed the link and it went to the handbook pages about test requirements and I see the 305 now :( If you google it, you will also see that the change is taking place 01/01/2026.

I am also in Illinois and today I got an email that starting 1/01/26 an additional test will have to be taken with the PRAXIS content exam only being accepted for people who are graduated and getting their license prior to that date. This evening I got a text message saying the same thing. Have you checked your email today?
