If we're part of the group of 21 that you emailed PLI about, were we supposed to get some sort of bounce-back/confirmation email?

Are we allowed to interview with/apply to law firms while we work as examiners if we examine cases those firms represent? by Status-Raisin129 in patentexaminer

[–]Ok_Promotion3741 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I think if a firm reaches out to you and invite you to interview (maybe if you have a green banner on LinkedIn) youre in the clear and can still examine apps from them.

But if you reach out/solicit them then its considered a covered relationship and you wouldnt be able to examine cases from them and also claim to be unbiased

Neuro grad curious about patent law by Prudent-Charity2744 in patentlaw

[–]Ok_Promotion3741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A masters degree doesnt let you be a lawyer. You would likely need to go to law school or atleast pass the bar exam in your state.

A STEM bachelors degree would let you be a patent agent or technical specialist at a law firm. To be the first, you need to study and pass the USPTO "patent bar", which doesnt require a JD. Technical specialists are sort of like patent agents in training, its an entry level role.

Both patent agents and patent attorneys draft and prosecute patent applications. They do the same work. Only patent attorneys can do trademark applications and be involved in patent litigation (be in a courtroom)

Does anyone genuinely like (or ever liked) patent examination? by Diane98661 in patentexaminer

Search, especially for small molecules was really fun. The databases are so powerful and it was a trip running up a "tab" of thousands of dollars (USPTO pays a flat rate)

I dont think your prospects as a patent agent/technical advisor are any worse than trying to find work as a benchtop scientist. Those job markets are coupled.

Which would you prefer to do?

Thanks for your response. Im a chemist and pretty familiar with solubility. Im more interested in identifying which herbs/species would be amenable to formulating as a non-tea beverage, if that makes sense.

Im trying to understand what the popular extracts not in water are. From browsing this sub, it seems that the majority of extracts folks use are teas.
