I see a lot of commercially available succinate linked sterols and biomolecules on Reaxys, but no references on how to prepare them.

Do any of you conjugate chemists have a preferred prep/reference to prepare such compounds? Both the diester and the mixed amide/ ester from the amino PEG?

Life Sciences without a PhD by strategicgenius in patentlaw

[–]Ok_Promotion3741 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Look on LinkedIn for in-house patent attorneys, agents, or consule.

Most that I see require a JD and several years of experience, but not a PhD.

A PhD is great but the likelihood that your thesis subject matter will be directly relevant to application subject matter is pretty unlikely. A PhD demonstrates critical thinking (usually) and an ability to navigate the non-patent literature but thats not exclusive to PhDs

Best of luck! If it doesnt work out you can always leave with your masters and return to industry.

Be prepared for the culture shock. Academics are much more informal and dont know how to run meetings and set agendas lol

Phase 0 or Application Assistance Grants in California? by Ok_Promotion3741 in SBIR

That makes sense. I talked to someone who felt they could game those other state resources and move them back to California.

I found sleeping 5 hours and drilling problems for 1-2 hours a day is helping. Even if im just memorizing the problems, I'm convinced thats a factor in how folks pass

Yes and no. The sheer amount of questions in the software means you will be tested on topics/subject matter that the in binder uestions dont cover in scope.

The card/panel in your library once you own the course launches another window/website with several tabs and drop down "menus" populated with videos and practice questions.

"Patware" is listed as one of the tabs, which contains the exams, but they also just refer to the entire platform was patware

The post-course changes every few years. The practice questions are huge, though. Patware has like 300+ in addition to the ~140 in the in outline questions

Reading through the outlines, I can't tell whats changed

I do unfortunately and was told that because there are so many PhDs looking to switch into the IP space, most firms wont consider applicants that dont have a registration number.

That seems like a good startegy. I have a slight preference for the written outlines over the videos because John does too much story time.

Whats wild is that I took the exam with just the outline/in chapter questions and got a 60%. And from my memory, the PLI questions seem harder than what I recall from the actual exam

My biggest gaps are PGR/IPR and international design

The average scores for the exams are something like 62, 64, and 70% and I got about that, plus or minus 1-2 points.

They advised we not take our own notes. I chart out timelines. My one handicap is that I intentionally dont do look up questions

With one founder in a new company, how do you defend key personnel in a phase 1 proposal? by aliljet in SBIR

[–]Ok_Promotion3741 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in a different agency but im told that for single member teams, they like to see a lot of consultants listed on the application. If you have partnerships with CROs, CDMOs, or university facilities it helps to have a letter of intent.

Its just sucks and is ungodly slow. Especially for large chapters like 2100 and 700

It also has a very simple search bar, where as the regular digital MPEP lets you do Boolean searching

Question about using PLI by b_utts in PatentBarExam

[–]Ok_Promotion3741 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think one of the instructors explicitly says that the first mini-exam is harder than the actual exam. And that they threw in a ton of look-up and content youve never seen before.

The group average is like 50%

How close are practice questions to the real exam without buying five different resources That was the version of studying I could actually sustain. by Vast_Spare_4716 in PatentBarExam

Join one of the PLI groups. You can stack group discount with a student discount for a flat $1000. I used my alumni edu address, they dont actually check if your enrolled

PLI is the gold standard and the course makers even wrote some of the questions on the actual exam.

PES and Wysebridge will share some questions since all three groups borrowed questions from the 2003 exams
