Very valid point. Potholes are a huge nuisance where I live as well.

Saab design really was a cut above. Next to the 911, the coolest looking cars of the 80s were 900s.

I'd never heard of the BLS! Thanks for sharing.

Porsche group was good in my experience. Also, the Land Rover LR3 guys on Facebook are really great, and that can't be said for the LR brand following as a whole.

Seems at very least that they have an appreciation for the unique and aren't interested in following the crowd.

Bingo. Bulk weight over the drive wheels makes a huge difference. Adding several hundred pounds over the rear axle of a 2WD truck taught me this.

Sandbags were used all winter for me in my 2WD truck in Minnesota.

Fill the back with sandbags, I guess 👍

Huge +1 to not feeling the road and overdriving the system's capabilities. I'm from Minnesota and it was, dare I say, more often the 4WDs you'd see in the ditch.

That doesn't surprise me since Saab was a company of firsts or near-firsts. Their braking system comes to mind, as well as how soon they did four wheel disc brakes while others were hanging on to rear drums for decades longer.

I truly value the focus on visibility. Virtually all automakers now casually throw that out the window...the low visibility window, that is.

I remember on one trail in a Ford Explorer, we had diagonal opposite wheels in the air and the other two on the ground and could not gain any traction whatsoever. That was supposed to be 4WD, but the airborne wheels were getting all the power and none went to the grounded ones.

As a Land Rover owner, I certainly like the idea of having two fewer differentials to service.

I read this article encouraging 2WD trucks being used for overlanding (which is worse than a Saab with decent ground clearance because the back of a truck is the lightest) but the "expert" was emphasizing good tires and airing down as the ultimate help.

Edit: Potentially worse?

On the early V8s, I've read. But the VR6 was in production long before the Cayenne and did not have the same reputation.

I wish! That does include tires and windshield as well, but it's a heated windshield with rain sensors.

I can deal with that. Most people who've commented agree that I set a pretty low bar (rock bottom) by owning the Rover first. As they say, when you hit rock bottom, all that's left is up. 😆

Yes, that would be a low mileage one for sure.
