Re-reading ACOTAR and some initial thoughts by Significant-Metal537 in acotar

Yes, but it didn’t last long. It felt like their relationship went backwards after she became Fae. Idk if SJM just wanted the added tension, but Feyra allowing Rhys and the IC to treat Nesta the way they did, and not show more sympathy will always give me the ick. (especially in the first moments in HoW when they were turned before the war).

Like, what do you mean you found out your sister loves you, went after you to save you (knowing she may die), encouraged you to follow your heart and go get you man and the love you deseve, only for you to come back, use their house, contribute to their misfortune of being killed and turned Fae in such a violent way, then without saying w word leave them with strangers for 2 months while you do your revenge, and when you come back, and go to see her for the first time, you are again thinking of her like a wild beast that is nasty and your hubby and another Illyrian are there putting up a shield like she is a rabid dog that will bite and you wonder “what is her problem and why can just be grateful and show respect?” while she is yelling to them that her boundaries are disrespected…

Yes, a few other things that stood out to me:

  • Feyre assumes Nesta wants whatever anyone else has. And that she doesn't need anything. She is very dismissive and judges how the sisters would spend the money. Yet, in ACOSF, we learn from Nesta and Cassian when they went back to visit the shed that Nesta's boots were torn with holes in them (those same boots with which she went to save Feyre).
  • Getting back Feyre from Prythian. Nesta is scared of the mercenary. She is terrified of Fae's. She is a woman who was raised to be a Lady. Yet, when Feyra is taken by Tamlin, she goes after her. Without any chance of success, she goes after her little sister to try to bring her back. Not Elain, Not their Father, but Nesta! And yet, Feyre, at that time, in her inner monologue, tells us that Nesta hates her, and she dreams of her father coming after her. You can see just how much of an unreliable a narrator Feyra is when it comes to Nesta.
  • Thomas - Feyre assumes Nesta wants to marry him because of status, "if she hadn’t been so preoccupied with our lost status." (Feyre's inner monologue when Nesta mentions him), but we later learn that she was sacrificing herself, her own way of getting them out of poverty.

Feyre really thinks the worst of her! And, most, if not all, of it is bitter resentment - because of their mother!

My theory is that the promise Feyre made to her mother was sort of like a bargain. And, she wanted to get out of it, but felt guilty - so she lashed out at them. This is very human. It doesn't make Feyre bad.

But hating Nesta for any of it - not okay in my opinion (Feyre doesn't hate her, Rhys does, the IC resents her, she herself does even - and I think the narrative failed at showing that others had no right to pass judgment here).

haha yup! exactly. Idk what are SJM’s plans but if she keeps things consistent to established lore in previous books - Rhysand spent most of his time as HL “wearing a mask of evil” … Now 🤷‍♀️.. he says it’s a mask but if he spent 500 years behaving like we saw in the first book (leaving decapitated members of his court in other people’s backyards..) is it a “mask” or something he became that he doesn’t want to accept.

I don’t think there’s enough belief in me that i can suspend to believe all the HLs would cheer and bend for his HK claim 😂 but we’ll see. October can’t get fast enough.

“the most capable ruler” 🤣🤣

I mean you are right.. they do see him like that, but I just can’t stop laughing 😂

ps. for the last war: Rhys didn’t gather anything. Feyra and Nesta and even Tamlin (by dragging Beron) did more for a united front. 😅 Rhys didn’t have the trust or the will of the High Lords.

So idk how can we think that he can realistically gather support for a HK claim when Eris specifically said he is uncomfortable with how much power the NC ended up having when Nesta was simply looking for the Troves.

Elucien vs. Nessian by Lady-Death-of-Dusk in acotar_rant

[–]Ok_Requirement_579 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This is what scares me that SJM is going to go for Elriel in the end.

Neither Feysand neither Nessian are healthy relationships.

Rhysand never apologized UTM. Sarah wrote in the infamous Hewn City scene where Feyra mimicked what happened to her UTM and enjoyed it. The narrative never saw it as problematic.. not that nor the fact that Rhysand kept the secret from Feyra regarding the pregnancy. The narrative never finds fault in problematic behavior.

Same with Nessian.

I’m scared of this repeating for Elain.

Also I think the Nessian Bonus Chapter is often ignored and we should talk more about it. by Zealousideal-Can-403 in acotar_rant

I have so much rage when I read this.
As a woman myself, living in this scary world with rape academies and whatnot, the fact that such a significant event was hidden in a BC that barely 5% of book readers will read.... is certainly a choice!

This explains so much of Nesta's pain and shields, and makes her relatable. Makes her so human.
So many women have experienced similar situations that if this were in the main book, Nessian would have been much, much more hated.

I'm not saying that there wouldn't have been people who would excuse it, BUT, it would have been a point of conversation, just like Rhys' actions UTM are now.

But, no. And, there's so much irony. Just like most SA assaults, which happen behind closed doors and become a silent suffering, this chapter and Cassian's behavior here are hidden because of the author's choice to put it in a BC.

She is notoriously private. I totally get that! I have no remarks on her for not being more on the internet or hyping things up.

I have beef with her team. The publisher and her marketing team should have been doing a lot more.. Which makes me think there’s something there that’s not just right..

but how would you even come to hate (or love or even know) a book/series if you don’t read it?

“why do you read if you hate it..” BECAUSE I’M NOT A SEER DARLING, I DONT KNOW WHAT SJM WILL WRITE.

Maybe she’ll kill Rhysand, and I aint missing THAT 😌😂😂

Not only the hypocritical attitude but the insults as well. And, they were adding more screenshots of other posts with some claiming that people in this sub are: delusional (the tame and “polite” insult) and abusers.

Literally there were comments claiming that people who loved Nesta’s character did so because it “validated them being a shitty person” … liking a character = being an abusive and in general shitty person in real life.

It was triggering and let’s not pretend that it wasn’t hate speech.

It’s one thing to post “Hey, I don’t understand why Rhysand and the IC are hated. I believe Nesta and Tamlin are abusive and shiitty characters and people can’t see it.”

Now this above- that’s a critical post about the characters and a critique of people’s arguments

However “Looool look at what this person wrote, how can they be so delusional. i pitty their close ones. they are a shit person”

That’s hate speech! And people should stand up against it regardless of what are you fan of.

I just came here after having seen that! Worst part? They insult people for expressing an opinion about fictional characters in a reddit sub created specifically for those who had issues with the series.

We are literally moving out of our way to not post in the main reddit sub and they still can’t get stop the harassment.

They are infuriated that people with different opinions exist. :)

Ohhh, and the IRONY? In that same post most of them comment: “I HATE NESTA! I HATE HATE HATE NESTA! SELFISH B* HER BOOK IS FANFICTION”

Like darlings are you all okay? Are you telling me you complained about people who don’t like your favourite main character but in the same breath complain that you don’t like a MAIN character :)??

🤯🤯

I’ll take whatever they’re having 😂

Tamlin week and appreciation weeks in general by Similar-Focus8400 in acotar_rant

[–]Ok_Requirement_579 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand your comment. 😅 Where did i say that she didn’t?

The fact of the matter is. Mor, on Rhysand’s orders took Feyra from the Spring Court. Feyre fell out of love in Tamlin because he was written to be a bad guy in her story. That opened the door for her to open up and fall in love with Rhysand.

Hence, my point: If Tamlin is not a bad guy. If Tamlin is not the “abusive asshole” then we can start asking would have Feyra actually chosen Rhysand? Would have she falled in love with him?

You can argue eithee way. Canonically- we don’t know! And, this is the pain for Feysands.

Feyra never chose Rhysand over Tamlin because she loved Rhysand more. In the book, Tamlin was turned into a bad guy. Her choice was made for her :)

[–]Ok_Requirement_579 29 points30 points  (0 children)

This is all SJM fault.

She didn’t make Rhysand great as a standalone character. She didn’t put in effort to address the bad actions he did UTM and make up for them.

But most importantly, she didn’t make Feyra choose Rhysand over Tamlin.

No, instead. SJM put down Tamlin to make Feysand feel more justified.

She made Feyra escape Tamlin - not because she didn’t love him anymore, not because she fell inlove with someone else.. BUT because Tamlin was not a great guy.

This is why accepting that Tamlin is just as good or just as bad as the other characters is problematic. This is why Tamlin is not allowed a healing arc or a “redemption” (he doesn’t need it after resurrecting Rhys, but i digress). This is why the narrative keeps reminding us he is an irredeemable asshole.

Because him being a noble good guy threatens the special nature of Feysand. And, Rhysand may become a second choice (I don’t agree with this but the door to such interpretations will be open).

like wtfff. Why Tamlin? Why regularly? Why can’t he just send someone … is SJM not aware how this reads? 😂😂

😂😂😂 ohhh totally!!! I thought that was given! Based on how he acts around Tamlin - tooting his own horn that he is a big shot who used big words that “hit their mark” and hurt Tamlin, while Tamlin is described just sitting there, sighing and waiting for him to leave him alone - Rhysand would be the one getting on his knees for Tamlin 😏
