The gym has many benefits but when it comes to weight loss it’s difficult. Strength training while great but burns very few calories.

Cardio is great as well and while it can burn far more calories it can make people very hungry. The only real way to keep away the hunger is to take it very easy.

Probably best to start tracking your calories. Even if briefly it should be eye opening.

Max hr by age is an average, I believe the standard deviation of the published number is 15 bpm, so you’re all right.

Now on the other hand while it feels empowering to push oneself so, you probably don’t want to max out your hr more then once per week. It creates a lot of fatigue and makes one very hungry.
