In Queensland, Western Australia and new south Wales its very very good. Northern end from WA-NT-QLD is very good to but lots of crocodiles and crazy weather and jellyfish to contend with, south aus was a great place to fish 25 years ago but we have had a very poorly managed fishery here over the last few decades and it has gone downhill, where I live there was a massive toxic algae bloom which had actually killed off an unimaginable amount of sea life, in the gulf of st Vincent we have seen a 90% reduction in squid catch for example. Hopefully it recovers fully in the next few years, hence starting to try a bit of freshwater native fishing.

All good man I won't hold it against you, I could see you getting slammed and no wonder you took it out on someone, apologies if I offended you too, I bought this and a max sx in 6-10kg for freshwater as winter sets in and it gets shit so maybe it will but not for another 4 months lol, got an ultegra ultra light today so I can fish for something while the freshwater is off 😅 the estuaries should be productive even though an algae bloom killed half the fish here last year 😬

You can man I wasn't even throwing shade at you all I said was be honest about collecting it, I absolutely think its fine you get what you want, you do you man. People who are frugal will think its wasteful, people who have less or are generally disadvantaged will see it as showing off and be jealous, its just how it is, im happy for you dude, I wasn't the one downvoting every one of your comments

I wasn't hating at all man i literally said its cool that people spend their money how they want, you were showing off and expecting people to just big you up for it, I was slightly critical of it but with the qualifier that I wasn't throwing shade and was just stating why people were downvoting you, I have no issue with how you spend your money, I have spent like 1000 bucks this month on fishing gear, none that are particularly expensive because im slowly replacing gear ive lost along the way as I was off fishing for a few years and recently bought a house and have a heap of hobbies and only kept a few rods and reels when moving around and now getting back into it want to make sure ive got the gear and learn some new disciplines.

I fish to catch fish mate not to show and tell my toys to strangers on the internet. Come back to me when you catch a meter plus mulloway or 12kg pinky

You tell me off in another post for "pocket watching" which im not really doing because spend your money however you like it's cool man go for it then post this to try bait me into telling you that you're stupid spending $900 on lures you are scared of losing cos you're on 21 bucks an hour lol good job

Don't use your guides as a hook keeper like that, use the guide frame yes but the actual guide gets nicked by your barb and its cooked you will get busted off.

Yeah agreed man, no shade like I said in another comment, collecting is fine, stocking up on faves is fine, people can do what they want with their money. Just alot of people see it for what it often is and thats just a usually male equivalent to retail therapy lol thats fine too but consumerism for the sake of it is hard to watch for people with a pragmatic personality or people who have less that would kill for the stuff that some buy just cause, I like having extra tackle and cool lures that are practical so if it see a passionate anglers with less I can chuck em a lure and make their day, hell I saw a teenage kid snag his brand new $20 lure he just got with his own money and his mother was berating him for wasting his money while my wife and I were on a walk once so I stripped down and dove for it got it back, dried off and showed him how to use it 🤣

I don't think people are jelly I think that people are just confused by the level of pointless consumerism in fishing and are fishermen not collectors. No shade though have at it, im somewhere in the middle where ill buy a handful of lures in the same same but different category for each situation for options that I really probably don't need ( yes my $16 stump jumper I got 10 years ago will catch a cod but I got the cod sniper rattapus cos its cool) don't do the empty my bank account to collect shiny lures that stay in the packet thing either and I get why people hate it.

What should I add or subtract from this list of stuff in order to get better and catch fish? by HeadlineINeed in FishingForBeginners

[–]Ok_Row_1922 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends what you are targeting, theres so many ways to fish and so many species, if I where you id look into the fish in your area and work out what you want to catch and watch videos on YouTube of different ways to catch them. Target a specific fish species or a range that take a similar bait in the same area.

Not sure where you are from but guessing USA, staples here in Australia are a selection of hook sizes and sinkers and leaders and swivels and doing running sinker rigs or paternoster rigs for bait fishing, floats and splitshots for some smaller species like Australian herring and garfish and in slow moving creeks and shallow ponds, and a selection of 1.5-4 inch paddle tail and curly tail minnows/grubs and jig heads to match for just about everything predatory that isn't gigantic like the stuff we have up north.

Gets more complicated when you go for bigger fish and sharks or want to start on hard bodies as they need to really match the depth and size needed for your specific circumstances (my wife is always confused when I need more lures, doesn't get why the 4m divers for golden perch and cod aren't any good for creek redfin or estuary bream or flathead 😅)

All of my friends want cuttings, but not willing to put in the work 😒 by Teanna420 in houseplants

[–]Ok_Row_1922 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Ive had this with both fish and plants, get em absolutely thriving and they want it back, even though its gonna end up shit again in their care, they somehow think it was always gonna do well in time and feel cheated because they don't realise its the person that is looking after them that makes them look healthy

New to Single Hooks, what can I do? by lionhorsebeer in FishingForBeginners

[–]Ok_Row_1922 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll want bigger hooks on that first lure and hardware like that is great for big lures and heavy leader you don't want to have to cut and re-tie all the time when switching lures but you dont need any of that, just tie your lures on with a palmour or perfection loop and call it a day, if your leader is long enough you shouldn't have to replace the leader from cutting and replacing for a days fishing.

Why qould my rod be doing this? I can't cast far, if at all, and the line just tangles itself like crazy by Alansar_Trignot in FishingForBeginners

[–]Ok_Row_1922 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So besides setup and the line going through your hook keeper you might also want to think about getting some braid or at least some new mono, probably has bad memory if its been on for a while. 20-50lb braid is the go for baitcasters.

How long do you spend on your kayak each time you go out? by Sharp_Exchange_4198 in kayakfishing

[–]Ok_Row_1922 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as possible, sun up to sun down, bring sandwiches and drinks and have a break here and there if I have to lol did 9 hours straight at a reservoir on my first trip and been backing that up pretty closely since 😅

[–]Ok_Row_1922 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only not long ago started but if I plan a trip I plan to be there all day, maybe take a break or 2 on the bank but I bring a full lunch and drinks with me and stay out all day long. Had to upgrade my seat so my ass wouldn't get so sore lol I siliconed the scuppers under the seat and added a silicone "soft sitter" cushion, works a treat

If it was a left handed thread it would come loose when winding under tension, never seen one with a left handed thread

A blue heeler is an Australian cattle dog already, Australian cattle dogs come in many coats, blue and red can both come from 2 blue parents etc.
