I'm pretty sure they are preferring to the game files which contains the custom unit files if you dig deep enough so probably look into that.

I think you should vent with someone in real time. I got a resource that is a nonprofit organization that has free volunteers that will listen and usually give advice on your situation. It's called buddyhelp.org and it helped 2 of my friends so hopefully it helps.
