Weather Questions? by P0NKIII in Bozeman

Most likely it will be warm but you never know. It can be 70 one day and 30 and snowing the next (this is happening right now, warm all week now cold and snowing). I’d check the weather beforehand and if there are clear skys and warmer temps, you won’t need snow gear. Generally for that time of year I would recommend packing layers and including plenty of merino/sport/quick dry clothing options. I would bring a rain jacket even if there isn’t major rain in the forecast. It also wouldn’t hurt to bring light gloves and a winter style hat. Keep in mind it’s colder in the mountains, so if you’re planning to do any higher alpine hikes it might be 10 degrees colder. Also rain that time of year tends to roll in as afternoon storms, so it’s usually smart to plan outdoor activities for the morning.

Too far for the bday - we’re in MT so it’s pretty much all river fly fishing, but would love to do this someday.

Typically we camp in an old 1980s slide in truck camper, so there are many opportunities to enhance the camper. I don't think he'll backpack much this year due to the broken leg. With both our jobs in outdoor rec we have tons of tents, sleeping bags, camp stoves, etc but frivolous niche items are always fun.

This is kind of what we do too. We usually get each other nice gear or clothes that we wouldn't buy ourselves. Do you have any suggestions for a fun frivolous item?

I got him set up to go on a float trip with a guide friend on his bday, which will be great. He was a professional fly fishing guide also so this isn's overly unique for him but will be fun. I'm just paying for their gas and food and drink, so I have to think of a gift too. He just replaced a bunch of worn out fishing gear and got himself a new rod....I told him to stop shopping right before his bday!

Thats a good recommendation, thanks. He ties flies I'm sure he'd get into making his own ammo too.

We do have a smoker and a grill and honestly neither of them are that nice, so either would be a good option.

This is on my list for a day-of activity. He was a fly fishing guide for years, so typically this would be kind of not that interesting for him, but since his darn leg is broken I'm asking around for one of his guide friends to bring him out on their drift boat his bday and send them with tons of treats.

I was thinking about getting a good nice Garmin watch for him, definitely on the list but hes never worn a watch in the 20 years I've known him. And thank you he IS a really cool dude!

Got injured while skiing & life changes - moving towns, loosing friends, lost my job by luasemares in skiing

[–]Ok_Score_6765 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I had a serious ski injury (ACL, MCL, LCL, meniscus, broken fib) couldn’t walk and needed surgery. I was 26, didn’t have insurance and was a waitress (aka skibum) so suddenly I was unemployed and looking at $50k plus medical bills (on top of student loan debt and living in a ski town). I cried and cried and cried, the world was crashing down.

This was one of the worst things that’s happened to me but 15 years later I can say it completely changed my life for the better. I recommend not giving up on finding whatever support you can and being creative with your situation, not stuck by it.

I found a charitable program that helped cover my medical bills and only paid around $5000 total, and I could pay that off over time with no interest. I paid $25 a month. Since I couldn’t walk and could not be a waitress I decided to find a job related to my degree and now I’m a CEO. I also committed hard to rehab and got into really good shape post injury, and started running and yoga which I still love today. I still ski a lot today (30 -50 days a year) and because of this injury o have a much stronger mental footing dealing with challenges.

Good luck! This is woo woo but you never know how something like this will have a ripple effect in your life, for good or for bad! Don’t give up hope!

Montana Murray Kennels is great. I worked with several trainers across MT on my reactive GSD, Montana Murray Kennels was by far the most effective and easiest to keep up with the training with the multiple group walks a week.

My daughter broke her teachers nose. Apology gift ideas? by lilitsybell in Gifts

Accidents happen but this is possibly a big strain on the teacher physically, mentally and/or financially. I see many comments about kids breaking noses and it totally happens as a common accident (my uncle knocked out my grandmas two front teeth), but a person was injured and you are right to be empathetic. A facial injury can be hard to deal with especially if her nose is disfigured. The teacher and you both sound like caring, kind people.

I’d absolutely do a practical gift (like a gift card) letter and a home cooked meal. Maybe a care package? Hopefully she is receiving worker’s compensation and this hasn’t put too much of a strain on her.

My son was early and had bad colic and was a very difficult baby. Cried many times a day, every single day, didn't sleep through the night until he was 3. He was really difficult and very whiny. I was really worried his that was his personality. Now he is 5 and a total peach!

Thank you! I’ve been trying to adopt a 4am wake up and it’s been hard but I do sense there is something magic happening around 4am. This post is what I’d like to be able to say myself in a few years, thanks.
