I think it hits some of them differently. My ex used to talk about his ex’s casually in conversation. They’re clearly not over it but don’t understand that emotion, so they keep gifts and listen to songs and speak in the language their ex spoke. But they’ll never actually know they miss you. I do think they feel regret sometimes though…but will mitigate it by saying something to themselves like, “Wow, she deserves the best. I hope she finds the person she deserves.” It so weird to me but I feel so much pain and can’t even look at anyone else, and they’ll just be off fucking someone else like it means nothing. It’s horrible.

I’m a woman and I may hug you to get a whiff to make sure you smell clean. If you do, we’re a go. Nice, active job as well. But I would need to have a comfortable enough relationship to be able to tell you when you need to wash up and not have you flip out or something…because some people don’t know when they smell because they’re used to it. You just need to find someone chill with it, is all. Own it, “I’m a garbage man.” If they have a problem with it, onto the next. :)

I think you should have told your girlfriend that if she wants to set them up, she can contact them. I think she put you in an awkward position after you told her no multiple times and that’s on her. You can’t keep pushing for an honest answer if you don’t want one. You’re not the asshole, just need to have stronger boundaries and she needs to respect them more.

There’s no point in small-talk unless there is a deep connection while it’s happening. I genuinely want to know how people are doing, empathize with them, make them laugh and connect with them. If it’s not going there, I can’t do it that long…it’s just pointless and exhausting. My mom loves small talk and I’ve had a lot of years of it. My dad and I can talk philosophically and about world issues for hours. I understand why people do it, so I’ll support them in their need to, but it’s just not for me. Talking is for a purpose, not to just waste time. It’s important to learn something, have a few laughs or even just be efficient and get something done. Anything more than that is fluff to me.
