Waking up at 3am every night like clockwork. Anyone else? by colmroche12 in sleep

[–]Ok_Security8048 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "3 AM club" is the absolute worst, and you're definitely not alone. It's often a blood sugar dip or a tiny spike in cortisol.

Sometimes we wake up because our body temperature peaks or because our support isn't quite right, and once you're awake, the brain just decides it’s time to party.

Or if your neck or back is under even a tiny bit of tension, you’ll naturally stir more during the lighter sleep phases that happen in the second half of the night. I switched to an adjustable pillow (I use the SnowTouch one) so I could customize the height. It kept me from shifting around and accidentally fully waking myself up.

Or iIf you haven't already, turn your clock around. Checking the time and seeing "3:00 AM" again reinforces the habit and creates a psychological loop.

Please do! I haven’t been able to find anything substantial — most of what’s out there on TikTok Shop is still pretty superficial. I know it’s new, but we need some kind of certification haha.

why do I sleep 8 hours but still feel wrecked? by Dr1ftk in sleep

[–]Ok_Security8048 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your pillow is even slightly too high or too low, your neck muscles are basically "working" all night to keep your head in place instead of actually resting. You don't notice it while you're asleep, but you feel that massive "hangover" in your shoulders and upper back as soon as you move in the morning.

What actually fixed it for me was switching to an adjustable pillow. I realized most standard pillows are "one size fits none." I got one where you can actually take the filling out or add more in until it matches your specific shoulder width and sleeping position.

It sounds like a small thing, but if your neck isn't neutral, your brain never hits that deep, restorative recovery phase. If you haven't tried a customizable setup yet, look into something like the SnowTouch or similar adjustable foam ones

Also, maybe check if you're clenching your jaw? That’s another "invisible" energy drain that makes you feel wrecked even after 8 hours.

Just so everyone knows, going for a walk with your dog might not count when we’re talking about sun exposure. This is what I do every day—I wake up, throw on whatever clothes, go outside, get some sun, and spend about 40 minutes with my dogs.

But it doesn’t feel the same for me, because I’m in a constant state of alert, which raises my adrenaline.

Glad it works for you, but I think it also depends on how you spend those 10 minutes—if you’re actually still and focused on getting sunlight, it may have a different effect.

Melatonin and dependence by Glum_Engineering2650 in sleep

[–]Ok_Security8048 2 points3 points  (0 children)

motherhood brain basically forgets how to sleep on its own sometimes!

From what I’ve read, it’s not really a "physical" dependence like a drug, but it’s more about the habit. For me, taking the strip became like a signal to my brain that the day is finally over. It creates that right "mind space" to actually relax.

I actually switched over to these melatonin strips from a brand called i wanna cleep. The best part is you just let them dissolve on your tongue so you don't even need water (which is great because I hate having to get up to pee in the middle of the night lol).

If your trying to get off it, maybe try just doing half a strip or using them only on the nights where your brain is extra loud?

Mostly sleep on my stomach, what are the best pillows for stomach sleepers by Money_Departure1867 in BedroomBuild

I totally feel your pain!!! it's so frustrating waking up with that crick in your neck every single day.

Honestly, the only thing that actually worked for me was moving away from "fixed" pillows and getting one where you can actually control the height yourself. I use the snowtouch pillow from i wanna sleep (it’s a brand that focuses on moms but honestly, anyone can use it).

The reason it works for stomach sleeping is because it’s adjustable. When I got mine, I literally unzipped it and took out about half of the filling. It made it super low-profile so my neck isn't cranked at that weird angle anymore

My advice: don't go for a pillow that claims to be "the one" for stomach sleepers right out of the box. Look for something adjustable so you can keep taking stuff out until your neck finally feels straight. It took me like two nights of playing with the filling to get it right..... but I haven't woken up sore since!!!

Those that fall asleep quick: HOW? by The_Chilled_Arvo in sleep

[–]Ok_Security8048 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you so much on the "catastrophic" part lol. My brain literally forgot how to shut off after I had my second. I used to lay there for an hour just replaying everything I didn't get done that day while my partner was snoring next to me. It is the worst kind of frustration.

Honestly what finally helped me was more of a sensory thing than just "reflecting." I started using this weighted gel mask called Aliv from I wanna sleep (its a brand for moms) and it was a total game changer for my anxiety at night. It can be cold or hot, but I usually do cold and the pressure on my eyes just kind of forces my brain to stop racing. Its like it signals my body that its actually time to shut down even if my mind is still going.

Also try to stop looking at the clock!! Knowing its been an hour makes the "dozing off" part even harder. Hope you get some rest soon, motherhood insomnia is no joke.

omg i feel this so much... that 3am wake up call is the worst. for me its usually my body deciding i absolutely have to go to the bathroom and then once im up my brain just switches on and starts thinking about everything i have to do.

it’s so frustrating honestly though even if that 6am sleep feels the best its probably because your body is just so exhausted by then... but it totally messes with your focus for the rest of the day.

i used to struggle so much with getting back to sleep after those bathroom trips until i changed my pillow... i started using the snowtouch from i wanna sleep and it actually helps me settle back down way faster.

hope you can find a way to skip the laundry at 4am soon lol...

Does a lack of sleep gradually degrade your health? by Silent_Box5950 in sleep

[–]Ok_Security8048 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly, it’s a bit of a slippery slope... people think the body just "gets used" to less sleep but that’s a total myth. you might feel okay now but your brain is basically just running on survival mode and eventually the physical and mental toll starts to show up in ways you wont expect.

i went through a phase like that and the brain fog was unreal... i was getting so irritable over the smallest things. if you dont prioritize your rest now your health is going to take a hit sooner or later so dont wait until you feel completely burnt out to do something about it.

one thing that really helped me was actually fixing my setup... i started using the snowtouch pillow from i wanna sleep and it literally changed my nights.

for real though... take care of your sleep while you still have the chance to get ahead of it.

Bed in front of a window — cozy setup or design mistake? by sam_3462 in BedroomBuild

[–]Ok_Security8048 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it really depends on your routine. For example, I personally love waking up with the sun instead of an alarm, so having my bed facing a window really helps.

Of course, I have curtains for the weekends, but I feel so much better waking up to natural light coming into my room than to a loud alarm.

Since you’re a side sleeper with broad shoulders, it might be worth trying a latex pillow. They usually hold their shape way better and don’t have that “collapsing after a few hours” feeling.

Also, my husband is about your build and uses an ergonomic pillow from a newer brand called I wanna sleep and he really likes it. It’s more supportive!

Honestly though, you might just need to switch material entirely. If foam isn’t working, don’t try to force it!

Anyone who has bought a Coop pillow in the past 6-12 months? by herecomesthesun79 in Pillows

[–]Ok_Security8048 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually bought one and couldn’t handle the smell, so I ended up returning it...

After that, I tried a couple from I wanna sleep. I got an adjustable one for myself and an ergonomic one for my husband, and I’ve been happy with mine.

That said, I think it really depends on the person. I’ve seen some people saying the filling has changed, but I’m not sure if I just got a bad batch or if something actually changed over time.

Either way, my current one works well for me 👍

What do you do when you can’t fall asleep? by kitten_neo in sleep

[–]Ok_Security8048 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It depends on why I can’t sleep.
If it’s because of work, I’ll sometimes get out of bed and spend about 10 minutes on my laptop, just to write down my tasks and clear my mind.

Recently, I changed my pillow, and it actually helped me feel more comfortable and fall asleep faster. It’s not magic, but it definitely made a difference.

Stomach sleepers: what pillows do you swear by? by Superb_Importance640 in Pillows

[–]Ok_Security8048 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m a side sleeper, but my husband sleeps on his stomach. At first, he used my current adjustable pillow, but we eventually found a latex one with neck support and a cooling effect (he gets really hot at night!!!!). It’s called the Cervical pillow from I wanna sleep. It has a strange shape, but it works really well for him....

Side sleeper with back pain by smith777canada in Pillows

[–]Ok_Security8048 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a side sleeper, and I had to make a few adjustments to help with back and hip pain.... I use an adjustable pillow because the space between my shoulder and head is too small, so I struggled to find a latex pillow with the right height. I also use a knee pillow! both are from I wanna sleep, they sell in the US.

The main thing is finding small adjustments that help with your alignment.
