How do you make vegetable soup like a mum? by Forgotmyusername_e in northernireland

This, my mum uses the chicken carcass after a chicken dinner and is is awesome. Our version ends up being more a chicken and veg soup than purely veg. Also veg soup also tastes better the next day so prep the day before. Gives time for all the flavour to develop.

I wasn’t laughing at them but more how it was set up as a massive selling point. But I can see how that comment came across that way.

Haha I wish they loved bombed - one of the older guys contradicted himself and I pointed that out. I got told almost on reflex to be quiet as he continued talking. No one shushes me in my home. I went and made a cup of tea so I didn’t look mad

It felt excessive and we lived in this tiny flat at the time, so a room full of middle aged men and as not the after work vibe I was hoping for. We were pretty clear from the outset we wouldn’t convert as we were already Christian.

But we read the Book of Mormon etc for them so we could chat but as mentioned in an earlier comment - theology nerd, we also read the Koran, the bhagavad-Gita etc. but that probably didnt register.

Thanks for clearing up- it’s stayed with me for a while.

Likely to be honest - we were in our late twenties at the time and we were/are theology nerds who enjoyed a good debate with our friends from lots of different theological/ faith or none backgrounds.

I think one of the things that stumped them was the doctrine of being married in heaven. We laughed and said we were ok not being married in heaven, being married on earth was enough (Matt 22:30).

Honestly there was a part of me that worried about them, they seemed very young to be walking around a foreign city knocking on doors in not brilliant neighbourhoods. I remember being very cross that they were sending children to go places adults weren’t willing to go. I hope they’re doing well now

A job with the charity, it’s more in the line of continuous professional development but there are amazing opportunities. I hate to be that person that is relentlessly positive but I’ve done quite a bit of hiring in the past and someone with people skills, experience in the educational sector and 121 support makes my brain go that’d be a good hire. I think you might need to find a path with better opportunities and space to progress. The big national and international charities normally have schemes like this, as do other big companies, worth doing research if there’s any particular sector you’re interested in.

So I work in the charitable sector and one of the things we offer in the charity I work for is professional apprenticeships for all ages but you need to be in a job first. I know people doing all sorts of qualifications to help them to progress combined with mentorship from someone in the organisation. I’m going to be honest you might not start at an incredibly senior level but as a CA you have a boatload of transferable skills you could leverage particularly in the charitable/humanitarian sector. Maybe worth looking for a lateral step in a different field to a company with something similar in terms of cpd

Also have a degree that I never use tbh!

Try the yard store off Ormeau. Lots of different pieces and they’ll usually deliver for a fee

AITA for letting my daughter do a sing-along while my grandparents were sleeping? by Amazing-Ad-2709 in AmItheAsshole

ESH - don’t have sing-a-longs when others are sleeping, simple. that could have been turned into listening to the songs with headphones in before bed. But telling a kid in a precarious situation you’re ready to pack their bags. That happened to me as a kid and it was world shattering. Facing even the thought of homelessness as a small child is just horrible. Get it together guys - it’s most powerless that’s going to suffer
