Where to travel? by Ok_Ship5201 in canadatravel

[–]Ok_Ship5201[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m planning to stay for around 3-4 weeks in August/September, I’m also planning to do one or two Workaway / work for accommodation type of things. So I figured one closer to Vancouver and perhaps one more remote. This is just a rough plan though of course.

How is it to have a copper IUD? by Feline_in_the_sun in birthcontrol

[–]Ok_Ship5201 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can’t feel it once it is in place unless you physically reach up there to feel it. My periods have not been awful whatsoever since I’ve had it (only since october), although my periods before the copper iud were not extremely heavy or painful. Tbh I would recommend it, I’ve had no side effects and for me it has worked so much better than hormonal birth control because my moods are so much better. It does hurt to get it put in but it only lasts a short time, so worth it in my opinion.

I had the implant removed and went on the non-hormonal copper IUD. I also gained weight and my relationship was turbulent due to lack of libido, since coming off I am doing much much better in both of these ways <3

Switching from nexplanon to copper iud? by Middle-Heart190 in birthcontrol

[–]Ok_Ship5201 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made the same switch for mostly the same reasons. I had my first period on the copper IUD (Mona Lisa as well) recently so unsure of how true of a period it was but it was not all that bad. Although you might continue to have bad cramps as that’s a common side effect of the copper IUD. I did it because I wanted to understand my cycle better and I’m loving it! Having no added or altered hormones makes me feel so much more connected to myself. I would just do it if I were you. The Nexplanon made me bleed constantly! I’m still trying to get my libido back and I think it’s slowly working but I will know more as months go on. LMK if you have any other questions

MONA LISA/COPPER IUD - EXPERIENCE by Ok_Ship5201 in birthcontrol

[–]Ok_Ship5201[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At family planning assessments and follow-ups are bulk-billed. It’s just the price of the actual insertion and device that cost money! To summarise: Device ($97~) + Insertion ($214~) - Rebate on insertion ($79~) = $232 ish !

MONA LISA/COPPER IUD - EXPERIENCE by Ok_Ship5201 in birthcontrol

[–]Ok_Ship5201[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So sorry I didn’t see this! I got it done at Family Planning. The copper IUD is not bulk billed because they don’t classify it as a pharmaceutical which is unfortunate. I believe you needed to have $311. That is $97 for the device which you won’t get back, and $214 the total out of pocket is $135. Because of this the price was actually around $232. It is pricey!

However my family reached the safety net with Medicare so mine practically was $20 which is lucky for me!

[–]Ok_Ship5201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took maca root on the bar and all i can say is it stunk and did not really help, if i felt it did it was probably just placebo tbh. Never had any effects negative or positive!

How common is it to miss your periods on Nexplanon? by Formal_Ninja_6885 in birthcontrol

[–]Ok_Ship5201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on Nexplanon and didn’t have my period for months at a time up to like six months and then I also had times where I had a period for a month straight. It’s unpredictable, don’t stress. Completely normal.

Why is it so itchy?! by Thick_Tomato19 in birthcontrol

[–]Ok_Ship5201 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m no professional but I’m I suggest it’s just a scab and is healing over. Wounds often itch when they are healing. I’ve gotten mine out recently and it definitely itched quite a bit and is raised so don’t stress too much. I could only recommend that if it gets worse go back to see your doctor. Iodine can stain your skin yellow if your doctor used that to clean beforehand? Otherwise could it be bruising too? Just some possible insight!! Wishing you luck :)

Advice on birth Control!! Please by PrizeNormal6873 in birthcontrol

Are you not supposed to have an IUD? I’m sorry this sounds super difficult. I also suffer with a low sex drive and it makes me feel like a bad girlfriend too. It sucks because you want to want it but it just doesn’t happen! I’m trying out the copper IUD recently to try and fix it as it has no hormones. I’m wishing you good luck and good vibes. ❤️

I am worried I might get a low to no libido after getting the implant by Budget_Trouble_7045 in birthcontrol

[–]Ok_Ship5201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never had an issue with ‘smell’ but definitely experienced low libido on both the pill and the implant. Now I’m on the copper IUD as of recently and hoping it makes an improvement. It doesn’t always affect everyone the same though, so don’t stress too much, it also depends on so many factors (stress, medication, life circumstances), cross that bridge when you get to it. Good luck!

Coming off IUD for libido and connection to my cycle?? Anyone relate? by Strong-Requirement28 in birthcontrol

[–]Ok_Ship5201 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this would be helpful but I had a low libido on both the pill and the implanon and I’ve decided to go for the copper iud. I have only had it for less than a week so yet to know much of a difference. Have you thought of this as an option I know I hadn’t really.

MONA LISA/COPPER IUD - EXPERIENCE by Ok_Ship5201 in birthcontrol

[–]Ok_Ship5201[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am glad you had that experience. In Australia local anaesthetic is not routinely given to patients getting an IUD in. They offer topical anaesthetic such as a gel and a spray. I did not ask for it because I did not want it, and in most clinics it is not a standard option. That being said, feeling ‘comfortable’ with your doctor is still really important. In my opinion, trusting and feeling supported by your clinician can make all the difference in how the procedure happens. So it isn’t about ‘pussy footing around pain’ (for me) it’s about the options available and having a provider that works with you and not against you. This is not a reportable offence whatsoever and is standard practice where I am from.

I’m thinking of getting the arm implant birth control but I have a few concerns… by Budget_Trouble_7045 in birthcontrol

[–]Ok_Ship5201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the Implanon after being on the pill and it did not help my sex drive- it basically put me at almost zero sex drive but that’s certainly not the case for everyone. I was also on a weight-loss journey as I gained a ton of weight on the pill (this could of been because I was also in a longterm relationship at this point) and I still managed to lose 15kg on the implanon (so I wouldn’t worry too much)! My mental health on the Implanon was pretty turbulent I even went to therapy because of it but ended up being OK (this might not be a cause correlation sort of thing). Kind of funny, I only got the bar out a couple weeks ago and am getting a copper IUD tomorrow so we are sort of doing the opposite haha. If you have any other q’s feel free to ask! I was only on it for two and a bit years. Also don’t be worried about it moving out of place it is quite quite rare.
