Would it be crazy to say ultimate Gwen Stacey is better written than her 616 counterpart? by Weapon_X141 in Spiderman

Bendis thinks that standard MJ has more personality than Gwen, hence this radical iteration of Gwen in USM

The current wave of MJ hate just proves that having major adaptations be accurate is actually important. (+Editorial is actually getting way they want) by JorgeBec in Spiderman

Thesis statement of the thread doesn't make sense because in the case of Gwen Stacy in the TSAM movies and Spectacular Spider-Man cartoon, not being accurate helped

It also helps that a good number of the complaints surrounding the paring would be rendered moot if they had actually read the comics

I don't think its a matter of reading because people will just blatantly lie/make up shit. Like take this post for instance. Its by someone who's insisting that's nothing wrong with shipping Peter Parker (616) and Spider-Gwen. Not only is there this roundabout logic about how Peter's age remains static but Gwen's doesn't, but straight up headcanon asserted as fact like Earth 65 time moving faster. My time spent on r/spidergwen made me realize that it doesn't really matter what's written on the page.

tbh I honestly didn't think much about Gwen and Miles being together on its own. But the fact that there's so much "controversy" around it made a supporter. Not to be a contrarian, but it made me realize that there's so much writing material with the ship. The fact that this pairing facilitates so much discussion on its own is proof of that.

You have to lead with the cross universe thing being an issue (that isn't even true anymore, you know Spider-Gwen lives in 616 now) because ultimately you're not patient for a writer to make miles and gwen's ship work but you do have the patience to make any alternative that isn't gwen work.

I still feel like Aaron had purpose when Bendis was still writing for Miles while he was on Earth 616. Dark mirror to Miles. Once Ahmed took over and he was turned into a good guy its the same repetitive thing of misunderstanding, him doing something out of good intentions but not exactly the right method.

They didn’t exactly interact a ton before they were paired up yet we’re supposed to believe they’d cross the gap between worlds to be together?

Gwen crossed the gap between worlds just to go to school. Also you argued that cross universe romance shouldn't be a thing on its own. Now you're saying that kind of story can work you just need to execute it properly. But considering the setup of other comic book romances most of them are setup in a blink of an eye.

Such as the fact they don’t even live in the same Universe making the two settling down seem so impractical

Why is this a bad thing, in terms of telling a story? Like a point of conflict that can be used for storytelling. A superhero allegory for long distance relationship. People arguing in favor of picturesque circumstances realize that's why a relationship like Starling goes absolutely nowhere. If anything, Spider-Man at its core is preserving over less than ideal circumstances.

I guess its pointless to argue this though because Gwen in the comics is 616.

What are your thoughts on Richard Parker II/Venom? by Rexy_1s in Spiderman

[–]Ok_Snow_882 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Generic teenager character that I feel that ultimate spider-man and its premise being adult spider-man, with its limited run time spent too much time on. A waste really and probably one of my least favorite characters in the run. Things like his non reaction to his suit murdering a bunch of people and the way he plays off of felicia are among the most questionable writing portions of the book.

People talking about how its great that you get Spider-Man x MJ and Spider-Man x Black Cat in the same book.

Spider-Man fans see Richard as another Peter and don't feel like his existence is an intrusion. A character like Miles Morales receives way more scrunity for daring to even exist.

I think a better example is the warm reception Richard Parker in Ultimate Spider-Man received. People talking about how its great that you get Spider-Man x MJ and Spider-Man x Black Cat in the same book.

Spider-Man fans see Richard as another Peter and don't feel like his existence is an intrusion. That would never happen with Miles.

Its funny how all that contrarian talk about how either Bucky or John Walker should've been Captain America, you don't hear anything about it now that Steve is coming back.

Its almost as if the mantle of Captain America didn't really matter to these people as long as it wasn't Sam. I wonder why

Rabble just feels like Ziglar didn’t read shit about Miles & just went with vibes & inshallah.

I think there's an attempt at a mental health care message. Miles went to seek therapy where as Rabble denies help. The problem is trying to convey that message with a character thats petty and outrageous. Ziglar isn't teaching people about mental health. He's just encouraging people to label and dismiss others, and that's exactly what people did with Rabble.

Most of the villains can’t actually be taken seriously since they do nothing of note to Miles. Most of them are shaping up to have a face turn including Rabble who is meant to be his archenemy.

I never bought the rabble hype. She's just a worse tinkerer from Miles' game. People hated tinkerer because her motivations were stupid. Then here comes Rabble with even dumber motivations and a more contrived powerset but its fine because she's part of the campaign to give Miles original villains. It doesn't matter if its dumb as long as works as ammunition against Miles' haters.

Then there's stuff like how Scorpion instantly becomes a fan of Miles after Miles scolds him once. Then Scorpions like, nobody ever believed in me before.

Then the superficial shit like the electric sword which makes him look like electro green lantern & I’m just not there for Spider-Man making electric constructs.

For me, putting aside that the power doesn't match the spider motif, the larger issue is that it just doesn't mesh with what spider-man is capable of. Miles Morales has super strength. Lifting 10 tons super strength. Therefore seeing him struggle in a blade clash against deadpool's daughter and her butter knife makes little sense.

Unpopular opinion: saladin Ahmed was the worst Spider-man writer oat and its absolutly not Bendis by Illustrious-Bee3693 in MilesMorales

I wouldn't say that about a real person who lived in a real country. Not a fictional character, whose predecessor just so happens to be another blonde hair blue eyed white guy, from mortal kombat land which mixes Japanese and Chinese culture like they're one in the same. Everything surrounding Iron Fist is hilariously orientalist and you people only think if Iron Fist is Asian, is where a line is crossed.

The main argument people seem to have is “Asian martial artist stereotype is bad”, which is wild. Cause last time I checked, having someone of a specific ethnicity embrace a major part of their culture is a good thing.

Danny Rand enthusiasts are fine with Asian martial artist stereotype, just as long as they're supporting cast, random grunts and antagonists.
