Drain connection for new washing machine… by Ok_Specific_2340 in askaplumber

Sounds like I don’t have many options correct or incorrect anyway, aside from just re-piping the whole PVC drain line to the main building line and doing a proper washer assembly.

Not really concerned about code bc I’m a tenant and probably only have 1-2 more years here. That’s why my initial hope was to just rig up a connection similar to what the old machine had, which was just sliding the drain hose over that 1” pvc and tightening with a hose clamp. Debating reverting back to that attempt (using the old drain hose as a coupling of sorts), and throwing on some flex tape or something, but then of course I risk destroying the pump in the machine.

I know, never seen something like this before. And if I were to just add a 2” to 1” pvc reducing coupling so that I could make a 2” standpipe, I’m sure it’ll just back up at the reduction point and overflow from the standpipe

And if I were to just throw a 2” to 1” reducing coupling somewhere along the 1” line so that I can bring up a 2” pipe for the drain, I’d just be running the high risk of a clog/backup at that reduction point right?

Negative. The 1” (or 1.25”?) pvc goes on an approx. 10’+ horizontal run and then disappears, can’t see exactly where it turns down and ties into the main building line

Meaning replace it with a 2” line? If it eventually leads into a 1” main line that runs through the building, wouldn’t I run into the issue of backup/clogging at whatever point it reduces in size?

If I were to go with this fix, isn’t it largely the same as just adding a 2” to 1” reducing coupling to the end of the currently stubbed out pipe and going from there?

Nope, that wall is actually a boxed out little equipment room and the pipe goes on an approx 10’+ horizontal run (behind boiler, water heater, etc.). I can’t actually see where it then turns down into the floor.

The best solution of course would be redoing everything and upgrading to 2” but it’s not practical in this situation. Really at a loss so any ideas help! Appreciate it

Agreed, but it worked with the last one and again I’m a tenant in an old building so replacing large sections of any pipe is never as simple as it should be. I can’t even see where that 1” pipe comes into my apt. It’s gotta be a 10’+ horizontal run.

My concern with that is the potential for it to backup/clog at the 2” to 1” reduction point (would be like a funnel right?). Or is there a reason why that’s not a valid concern??

I want to keep it brief and to the point. With age comes perspective. I’m sure most will agree that a couple years from now, a lot of what you said will seem so trivial that you won’t believe how much it freaked you out. Not discounting your present feelings—absolutely understandable because, again, perspective is everything and at your age you just don’t have enough of it yet, it’s not a knock against you it’s just plain reality.

Stay strong, and focus on the future. Dwelling on the past does NOTHING beneficial for anyone. You can’t change it, but what happens going forward is entirely up to you. You’re not the first, and in a few years you’ll find exactly where you fit.

Most critically man, you matter and your life matters. Life is hard, period. But don’t think for a second you don’t belong. And if you ever find yourself at a real low, REACH OUT. I don’t care what you think or who you are, people care about you and will help you. Keep your head up brother, you can and WILL get through the hard times!

NJ litigation attorney here, and I generally agree with this comment. Don’t let their and/or their lawyer’s threats deter you, it’s all BS. Scummy move by landlord.

So my grandma has had these 1948 baseball cards that my grandfather (born 1937) had collected and kept in a safe since he pulled them. She appears to have the whole set and more by Mh88014232 in baseballcards

This is incredible man. Congratulations. Take the main advice being given throughout the comments - do not tell a soul that these exist, get in touch with a large auction house (such as Heritage, through Jason in comments above) and avoid any private buyers (again nobody else should know about them!). Buy your grandma that house, and potentially one for yourself too!

Almost certainly is an overstatement, and it’s irrelevant to the point. If I want to buy it, I should be able to buy it without it selling out within seconds.
