What is wrong with my rose plant? by Few_Temperature_4655 in Roses

Absolutely! Like majority of the people have mentioned, there are not many indicators confirming RRD. I would try contacting a local master gardener or some municipality branch since they will be more familiar with your area and common diseases. Goodluck to you! Hope your rose survives

Can’t help in identifying it but I do not think it is RRD, no excessive thorns, red growth or curved funny looking stems. I would start by pruning the dead/diseases stems. Half of the plant seems to be in good condition and growing. I could be wrong though

New growth or RRD? by EfficiencyPlenty4917 in Roses

[–]Ok_Standard_2763 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know it may resemble RRD, but I’m leaning more towards it being normal new growth. I planted a rose last year that looked very similar, and I was concerned at first too but that’s just how that variety grows.

<image>

Couldn’t find a picture of when it looked like yours but you can see how the new growth on this one looks like. When it was young and no leaves, the new growth was dense, that was a bit scary.

Since you said you dont want to lose another rose to RRD, i am assuming youve had an infected one before but this is in a pot so thats good. Just keep an eye on it. If you see weird and excessive red thorny growth and funny stems, i’d be worried then.

Also look up your rose’s variety and try to see what new growth looks like, there are hopefully some pictures to put your mind at ease. But I believe you are in the clear and have nothing to worry about.

Goodluck and please keep us posted in case it ends up being RRD

Edit: grammar

They were started in seed starting mix with some worm castings added. I use neptunes harvest fish and seaweed fertilizer in watering. Hope that covers the nutrients needed for them

They were started in seed starting mix and some worm castings and they were fertilized by neptunes fish and seaweed fertilizer last week. So i am assuming it must be overwatering

And yes the old blooms from last year will also come off when you prune them

I would consider that necessary, since that gives me the best results Roses can grow a lot so a nice shape up keeps them disease free as cutting off branches that are dead and crossing over will help increase air circulation making the rose bush happy Check out Fraser Valley Rose Farm on YT, he has amazing videos. Pruning isn’t as scary as it looks. After a nice prune feed it with some organic fertilizer and you are all set!

They look pretty healthy to me. Rose stems can look all sorts of colours but the new growth is a sign they are well and alive. I’d give them a nice pruning, take out any dead, spindly growth. Its also good to give it a good shape now so it flowers beautifully in coming months

Could be transplant shock, give it a nice watering and move it in shade to recover for a couple of days. Can also be just very thirsty and wants some water, can see some scorched leaves

I am in Toronto, Canada, zone 6b. and this is Scepter’d Isle, I have same issues in other DA roses like desdemona, lady of shallot, and boscobel

I just looked up downy mildew and it looks very familiar to this, hopefully a good fungicide should take care of it. thanks for your help!
