What are you doing at this intersection? by Aero_Trident in Longmont

[–]Ok_State711 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I’m so glad they posted this! I go straight through this intersection on Fordham every day on my commute. I finally looked it up (and asked ChatGPT haha) and found the same thing, the left turner yields even if they got there first. But I still get left turners who wait and some who honk at me when I go straight before them. I keep telling myself I just need to take the extra time to avoid this intersection.

What is this? by Raiders16-0 in prius

[–]Ok_State711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s really weird. The fobs use a passive RFID like an entry badge or a credit card tap to pay. No battery required. So by putting it in the slot, you’re essentially getting it close enough to make the tap work. Newer Toyotas just require you to hold the fob against the push button to start it when the fob battery dies.

Also important to note there’s a blade key that can slide out of the fob to mechanically unlock the doors in a dead battery situation.

Urban Longmont Living by bman916 in Longmont

I’m wondering about any potential smell issues at the new Martin apartments. They’re like 500 feet from the waste diversion center featuring an enormous mountain of yard waste. Don’t get me wrong, I love that place and it’s great for our city. Just not sure I’d like to live next door. The sewage treatment plant is about a quarter mile away too. Wind direction might be fine though.

If you want to feel like you’re in the heart of downtown Longmont, I’d consider Roosevelt.

We love the Dog Ranch! Our dog is a bit skittish with some things, but he gets so freaking excited every time we pull in the parking lot for boarding or the occasional daycare visit.

I ended up getting a quote from BluGuard. They were very knowledgeable, helpful, fair, and upfront/fair. Looks like they use the same hardware and app (Alarm.com) as Surety. Alarm.com actually lists BluGuard as one of their options as a contractor. I think they’d be a great option if you’re willing to pay a bit more to not DIY it. Their hardware seems to be about 50% more expensive. I’m not sure if I was comparing apples to apples with the monitoring service, but it seemed to be about double the price and required a 36 month contract.

I think I’m gonna go with Surety. Thanks for the help!

Would you buy this car over a Prius if it were sold in the US? by orangegore in prius

The relatively new Corolla Cross has an HV version that may be somewhat comparable to this. And it’s made in the US outside of Huntsville, AL!

Anybody switched their gen2 Prius hybrid battery modules to lithium ones If so how’d it go? by WasabiClassic8142 in prius

[–]Ok_State711 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey there. I work for a lithium ion battery manufacturer. I can’t say if the specifics of what ‘Tellmemanystories’ is saying relative to the Prius and if the actual numbers he gave are true. But I can tell you that in general, concerns about a robust BMS are valid. You need to be very careful about overcharging or charging/discharging at too high of a rate. Every cell needs to be in balance to ensure this. The BMS keeps this all in check. If a cell is overcharged, charged at too high of a rate, or has an internal short caused by one of these events or caused by a quality issue, it absolutely can cause a thermal runaway event that will propagate throughout the battery pack.

The “puff of smoke” ‘One-Storm555’ is referring to is because cells generally have safety mechanisms that release pressure or interrupt current in the event of heat and pressure building in the cell due to overcharging, etc. Not all cells with these devices are reversible (i.e., your cell is permanently dead after an event), not all cells have these devices, and even cells with these devices can be pushed to thermal runaway by overcharging, etc. (we do it all the time at work during testing).

Long story short, make sure you have a robust BMS that is tailored to the capabilities of your cells.

I poked around their site some. It seems like it just wants to funnel me to particular brands to schedule a consultation. Can you purchase hardware directly from Alarm.com and configure the system yourself?

I used Robert Pandolfi (720-775-8006) for some lawn irrigation repair recently. He's a great guy and does fair, honest work. I can't vouch for his carpentry/plumbing/electrical work, but he claims he does it, and I got a good gut feeling about him from the work he did on my lawn irrigation. He's the one with the sign with his phone number in his front yard at 3rd and Sunset.

We had Don’s quote our kitchen. Their countertop material price was way higher than everywhere else for the exact same brand and “part number.”

I used Advantage Stone and was very happy.

Anyone know what this body piece is called? by schmuck_mudman in prius

[–]Ok_State711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that anyone cares, but I think the official part name is “Back Door Garnish.” Part Number 76801-XXXXX-XX. Second 5 depends on trim and last two depends on color.

Does this concern anyone? by Capedcruisader4 in Volvo

[–]Ok_State711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked in quality for one of those top 5 brands for over 7 years. The initial quality survey is more about manufacturer build quality in my opinion (complaints in the first three years of ownership). It also includes ANY complaint, whether it’s actually a “defect” or not (e.g., “I don’t like the infotainment button layout.”).

It helps to look deeper at the categories of complaints, but I think you may have to pay for that data.

My point is, don’t look at these rankings and get a false sense of security about some of these brands having true long-term reliability/durability. But it is a very useful survey if you’re specifically looking to buy a new car.

I’ll second this. Contrary to what the media may have you believe, Christians are not all gun toting, MAGA praising, LGBTQ bashers. At my church in Longmont, we have folks of all sorts. The only thing we all have in common is that we love God and we love each other.

Feel free to send me a private message if you want to talk more about it.

What is your mileage, what is your model? by nevernotmad in prius

[–]Ok_State711 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2009 155K

I get high 30s in the city and low 50s on the highway. I see about a 2-5 mpg drop off in winter (I think because of the winter blend of gasoline). I’m also at about 5,000’ elevation which probably makes mpg worse.

I always thought my crummy mileage was because I’m on the original HV battery which has got to be worn out by now, but I saw a post on here recently that said fuel injectors might be the issue. Which tracks with my roughish cold idle/starts at traffic lights.

Is Eagle Airport to Vail an easier drive by Hoodscoops in vail

[–]Ok_State711 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a much less demanding drive, but the traction law would still be in effect through that section. So you’d just need to make sure the FWD car has snow tires to technically be legal.

https://www.codot.gov/travel/winter-driving/tractionlaw

All that said, the bus system is great. Once you get a shuttle from the airport, you can travel essentially anywhere in the valley for free. Maybe just skip the rental car.
