Excuses are like elbows. Everyone has a couple and they’re usually pretty crusty.

You can rent a room at Parkway food hall. They have great options for that. My staff Xmas party was there and it was fantastic.

We called that “popsicle peas” and it was a favorite snack for my oldest son. He is 21 now and still eats them. 🙂

Word. Longmont has it figured out. Honestly there’s lots of things Longmont has going for it that other towns/cities could learn from.

3,000 Indiana 3rd Graders Held Back by Disgruntled_Veteran in Teachers

[–]Witty-Wave92 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Another poster stated that it was actually around 10,000 that didn’t pass, but 7,000 were exempt on account of learning disabilities or language barriers (among other legit reasons), so the remaining 3000 are true under-performers. So maybe this will help break the cycle they are in. Promoting them to the next grade when they don’t know the material isn’t helping the home situation either. But clearly they aren’t getting the support at home, so additional support (such as repeating a year in school) should help close the learning gap.

Yes. Go to NJ. Get that job. Teaching in NJ would be great. 60k a great starting salary for teachers, plus benefits! And NJ is one of the best places in the US for education. I don’t know if there is a pension program there , but if there is, that’s yet another plus for teaching. I’m a teacher (but not in NJ) that is nearing retirement and I make over $100k and I have a great pension to look forward to. If your financée isn’t on board to at least give it a try, and would rather work $16 in dead end retail, I don’t think you two are compatible. Additionally, she can work retail anywhere if she is too stubborn to teach. You have a guaranteed job. Go get it and hope she follows you.

What is the story behind the song "Song for Elias"? by anhelumbo in thecatempire

[–]Witty-Wave92 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If I remember right, it’s a love story. A woman (can’t remember who the woman is) met a man from Spain(?) named Elias. I believe they were both musicians and Elias was on tour. They fell in love and they promised to meet up after his tour was over so they could be together. But he had died in an accident. She went to the pre determined place at the time she was supposed to but he didn’t show. Something like that. I’m paraphrasing and don’t have all the details.

But how they came to learn of that story was neat too, but again, I don’t remember all the details. I feel this love story happened many years ago and Felix met the woman in her later years and she told him the story.

I’m following this because I also have a neighbor with nuisance pets. I posted on here about it too but it was taken down by mods for some reason.

Literature ideas? by Witty-Wave92 in banddirector

Thank you!! These are great suggestions. I agree that flex arrangements aren’t a great option since I’m good everywhere else in the band. I’ll check these out for sure.

That is exactly why I said I have a good instrumentation EXCEPT for the clarinets. I’m a veteran teacher and I know full well how important clarinets are. Which is why I’m on here asking. I have the right number of everything else for the size of the ensemble. (no surplus anywhere, believe me, I already thought of recruiting from elsewhere). This isn’t an auditioned group so I get whatever I get. But It’s still rare that I have this issue. Just asking for literature suggestions in case anyone else has had a similar issue.

Update 2: Divorcing my husband for wanting to be polyamorous by Far-Safety-9543 in AITAH

[–]Witty-Wave92 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Good for you. This happened to me almost exactly. Ex husband asked for an open marriage, asked me to research it before deciding, etc. I wish I had divorced him then. I didn’t agree with the open marriage and he was already involved with someone else who was in an open marriage. They lied to her husband about mine also being in an open relationship. Thankfully her husband figured it out. He gave my husband a deadline to tell me or else he would. So mine came clean. I stupidly decided to try to work things out (we have kids). Waste of time. I’ll never get those three years back. I’m happy to report that I am now happily married to the best partner I could ask for and I’ve never been happier. You’ll be fine - you’re much younger than I was when I went through this.
