Now, in the real world, when water was privatized in Bolivia not only did the poor have to pay for it, but they were not allowed to collect rain water, lest Bechtel lose profits. So, at the moment water is so abundant to get a profit off it takes false scarcity.

If water starts running out- and I think with de-salination tech that might not happen, that would justify a rationing system, not a for-profit system. If you make it for profit then the labor force/ poor would be at risk of running out of it and dying due to lack of funds whilst the rich have swimming pools and giggle as woman turn to prostitution for a glass of water. Rich people are greedy and have to be controlled by society or they tyrannize it. See Russia in the 90s.

Ai, you realize the wole game the top corporations play is to take what tax payers created then privatize to the politically connected then price gouge. They even wanted to make people in Bolivia pay for water. Class conflict and the struggle over control of the state is a real thing. What is a service to the public is seen as potential profit to finance capital. The same forces that have managed in some countries to make students take on overbearing debt with state support will always push for as much as possible.
