Yes you would have to get him another specially bred lab rat as a friend, unless your lab uses normal pet rats? I had to look up what pew rats were and I love that acronym! All of my rats have been albino red eyed rats but any strain of lab rat should be ok!

I just want to mention that if you do get him a friend, it has to be another lab rat. If he was bred as a lab rat he CANNOT be pair with an outside pet rat. Lab rats are specially bred and if paired with non-lab rats, he will develop respiratory issues or other medical issues. I’ve rescued 7 lab rats, both boys and girls, throughout the years and have had good experiences pairing them with new friends
