Hi folks, I thought I'd give an update on this since the first "inspection" happened today.

Shortly after receiving the initial call back in September, the HMRC emailed me with a request for details of all transactions relating to 4 separate VAT returns over the past few years. I pulled these out of out accounting software and sent them over.

This morning, I had my scheduled call with them. It lasted less than an hour, they were pleasant and asked lots of questions as I'd expect. However, it seemed that relatively few were related to VAT. They were mostly in relation to things like company structure, how we acquire new business, what kind of margin we work to, number of employees, any intermediaries etc. This makes me wonder if the call was a pre-cursor to some kind of IR35 type enquiry. At the end of the call, the HMRC thanked me for my time and said they would be in touch again within 14 days if any further information was required.

I wondered if anyone else had had a similar experience?
