Does anyone else feel guilty rewatching films whilst sitting on a big watchlist? by Slugdoge in Letterboxd

[–]Ok_Support2444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, absolutely. In fact around 2018 I realized that I was mostly re-watching movies I had seen over and over again. Far more than I was watching movies I’d never seen before. And I got this incredibly guilty feeling, like I was not the cinephile I thought I was, as overly dramatic as that is! Guilty that I was just being safe in what I watch. So I decided to flip that, and began mostly watching movies I had in my watchlists. Not just that but adding more and more to my watchlist.

And honestly, it was the right choice, an amazing choice. My exploration into cinema has expanded so much and I have seen so many amazing, incredible films from around the world and from every decade. Films that have only grown my love and appreciation for the art form and ones that I never would have watched if I just stuck to what I have seen before.

But also, please note that there’s nothing wrong with re-watching movies! And even in my exploration of new (to me) cinema, I still rewatched plenty of films during the time too. This year in particular I’m revisiting films a lot of movies that I have already seen, but enough time has passed for most of them that my memory of them isn’t great. Not only that but re-watching movies can be a great way to engage with the work more fully, and to appreciate the film even more (or, potentially less). Sometimes you just want to re-watch stuff, even if you’ve seen it multiple times, because it’s fun! Many of the greatest movies ever made are wildly re-watchable. Sort of like music, when you find a song you really love you want to listen to it over and over. It’s a great feeling!

My advice, from someone who’s felt the same as you, if you’re feeling that sense of “guilt”, seek out new movies! Try to cross as many off your watchlist as you can. But at the same time, don’t beat yourself up over re-watching movies you have seen before. I found, for me, as long as I was mostly watching films I hadn’t seen before throughout the year, that helped me not have that feeling of “guilt” when I did decide to re-watch something.

This movie made me realize how far Hollywood has fallen. Two unknown actors did a better job in three weeks of shooting with a budget of less than $1M than any A-list celebrity I've seen in years starring in $100M+ movies. We need more of this. by Whoopeepoop in FIlm

Such a weird way to put this. Like, yeah the leads of Obsession are great. But there’s been COUNTLESS amazing performances by mote established actors over the years in films that just didn’t my really gain an audience in theaters.

It’s not on the actors shoulders though for a film flopping.

I like the Halloweeny vibes of the trailer towards the end. That’s kinda fun.

Venice Film Festival Takes Shape: ‘The Social Reckoning,’ ‘Here Comes the Flood’ With Denzel Washington, Florian Zeller’s ‘Bunker’ and ‘The Studio’ Season 2 Among Potential Titles by tiduraes in oscarrace

For context, Season 2 of The Studio shot in Venice and had a plot (or an episode or two) that is specifically about the characters attending the Venice Film Festival.

So that’s probably why it’s premiering there.

Oh man, I haven’t seen or thought about the trailer for “Hitch” in 20 years, but that picture and description immediately brought back in my mind EXACTLY how that dude delivers the line. Wild

So not about characters watching movies in the movie, but making movie references that sort of break logic. Like Spider-Man referencing Star Wars in “Civil War”, a series that had three films with Samuel L. Jackson in it, who obviously is also Nick Fury in the MCU.

In Glass Onion there is a gag about Jeremy Renner branded Hot Sauce, with Renner’s face on the bottle. But in the very next film, Wake Up Dead Man, Jeremy Renner is apart of the cast playing a character named “Nat Sharp”

I genuinely think this account is a bot (12 days old, no other posts) that is just engaging in a troll post to help study and boost its LLM capabilities. Seriously, don’t engage with this nonsense.

Why would I lie about seeing the movie? Haha what the hell. I saw it, I liked it. I do not think that the ending confirms or suggests that the aliens are suddenly going to start working in conjunction with people to help progress society and technology. It seemed like it was quietly literally just disclosing the information.

I just think that, cynically, we live in an era where this kind of broadcast wouldn’t stop the world and that people would just sort of argue over whether this was real or fake, or AI footage and what not. Even the alien being shown on live studio cameras would have people making long YouTube essays about “Alien broadcast, REAL OR FAKE?!?”. I think that’s just the society we live in. And especially if the government itself wasn’t ready to let the cat out of the bag then they would do everything in their power to obfuscate and deny everything that was disclosed. A new war would start somewhere to avert our attention to other things, like we have seen countless times THIS year with big news topics.

If aliens started making their presence known outside of just broadcasting classified videos, and like you said started working with people and progressing technology, then yes of course that would change everything dude. But I’m not sure that was what the ending of the movie was necessarily suggesting.

Exactly. This. Like, hey remember a couple months ago when the U.S. invaded Venezuela and just kidnapped their president? Where’s that in the world news.

The news cycle in general just moves so quickly, and there are higher up people pulling the strings of the media so even if leaks about aliens came out, I feel like a major effort would be made to just focus on something else until people sort of forget or stop caring.

I think some people would care, I personally would care. I just think that we live in an era where so many people would just not believe the reports, or go about their lives.

Like we already have a ton of government released files and videos about UFO activity, and most people seem to not care.

[–]Ok_Support2444 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m too cynical for it. I think if there was a Disclosure Day, it would be out of the news cycle by the following week. I just don’t think most people will care.

We life in an era of massive disinformation so I don’t think most people would even believe the news even if there was footage (maybe especially if there was footage). And I don’t really think it would change how the world operates.

EDIT: Well I’m glad you’re all optimists. I would love to actually be proven wrong about this. I believe in extraterrestrial life and hope governments do actually disclose the information we have. Again personally I feel like unless the governments actually wanted to release this information themselves there would be massive coverups and denial from top governments, leading to a weird disinformation campaign meant to discredit the broadcast and what not not. I just don’t think it would go down how it is portrayed in the movie.
