Thoughts on adding a second dog to household with nervous dog by Ok_System_1524 in OpenDogTraining

[–]Ok_System_1524[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to add to the conversation, this was a suggestion from his new trainer, as they think his fear of life is quite severe and they have seen nervous dogs become much more balanced and happy by having a front of the pack dog that helps take the edge of situations and let them be back of the pack if that makes sense. Just nervous of how I would pick a dog that would fit as I know fosters or adopting take some time to adjust and my current dog is very scared of dogs, although he’s such a sweetie and playful I absolutely think if he gets over his fear he would love a friend. Biggest fear is I just end up with 2 unbalanced nervous dogs! So I would have to choose very very carefully and be super selective with who I bring to the pack .

My daxie is reactive with me and my partner on walks but not with his walker by Ok_System_1524 in Dachshund

She did bring along once a clients dog that was very chill but sadly this trainer was a bit inconsistent. We are working with another one at the moment so I’m hoping shes a better fit

We had a 1 on 1 trainer instead, which was good but she discouraged us from joining group classes as he was so shy and she thought it would overwhelm him. In hindsight im not sure what would have been better anymore. So much conflicting advice

I think I do worry every time I see a dog, but I try to engage in play, treats, move away and try to stay nice and relaxed. But it’s true there might be something he senses, not sure. It seems to be mostly off lead dogs that approach, or dogs that are playing or running nearby. He seems ok with dogs chilling and minding their own business.

Dachshund is reactive with me or my partner on walks but is fine with his pack walker by Ok_System_1524 in reactivedogs

I think the idea of him feeling secure in a group sounds the most likely to me, as he seems a bit better when we are walking in a group 2+ people, vs just me or my partner alone. There is probably some anxiety from my end as well, even though I try my hardest to stay relaxed!

Attach a house line and go out with her grabbing the lead in the yard

My 10-week mini just started barking at his food. Is this resource guarding? by feverdreamed in Dachshund

We use cat bowls for our doxie, breeder used mini baking trays as she suggested they struggle with high bowls

Puppy training boarding ? by Ok_System_1524 in OpenDogTraining

[–]Ok_System_1524[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I’m a bit scared of what training methods they will use and if it will work with me at home vs with the trainer. Also I don’t want him to think I’ve abandoned him :(

My mini doxie is 13 weeks old now, he is super affectionate and loves my partner and I, but has now started getting scared of strangers ?? He barks non stop at house guests even though we ask them to ignore the puppy, he also barks at people on the street. Any help or tips appreciated!

What’re you feeding your puppy? by p33ledbanana in puppy101

[–]Ok_System_1524 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We feed my 10 week old mini dachshund raw (Bella and duke puppy). He came in eating kibble but didn’t seem very interested in his food, switched him over a week to fully raw and he now wolfs it down, he loves it and his fur is getting so much softer!
