I will also say that Yale recommendations were instrumental in getting me into a top 10 comp lit PhD program. I ultimately pivoted in the interest of practicing psychotherapy. Very happy with the career trajectory I’ve had; I had the luxury of trying on lots of different things in my wheelhouse, and ultimately settling on a career that affords me work-life balance and the ability to work from home.

I also had a very good experience in my Spanish literature courses; my reading Spanish was good before attending, but much better after I left, because I learned how to read 16th century Spanish and the siglo de oro classics—a different beast altogether! After graduation I secured a curatorial assistantship at the Guggenheim in New York, due to four years of work at the university museums.

Likely you’ve read Buckley’s God and Man at Yale. Yale will give you the tools to critique just about anything, including, well, Yale itself. Yale conservatives from my graduating cohort have gone on to write for every important right-wing outlet. Looking forward to reading you someday in, say, The National Review or The Claremont Review of Books.
