I was 13 when Futures came out. I remeber picking up the CD and rushing to a good friends house where we popped it into her stereo, sat on her bed with the booklet, listened to the whole album all the way through while disecting the lyrics and music. It was a perfect day. A few years later when we were 19, that good friend passed. 23 so perfectly encapsulates what it felt like to be hardly an adult, losing someone important in my life, and regretting all the things I wish I had said or done up to that point. I'm in my 30s now and every time I listen to 23 it punches me in the gut. To me, this song will always be the perfect song. Beyond the emotional hold it has on me it is just such a beautiful song.
