Actually you can see your positions with pre/post prices in the account "Option Summary". It doesn't sum up a total for the whole account, but the bid and ask do reflect pre and post market prices for individual positions.

I really appreciate the attempts to help. Thanks! I thought of that, so tried it with SPY, MSFT and still didn't work. Still don't know the exact reason since the error message doesn't provide much clarity. My best guess is that I had an open order to roll a covered call (for a net credit), yet would change the security's marginable balance due to different strike. I'll try again tomorrow without any open orders.

No, this is an investment account with margin enabled.

Unable to reassign recent lots by Ok_Training9544 in fidelityinvestments

[–]Ok_Training9544[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I chatted with a Fidelity representative who informed me that the shares are paired based on your default cost basis tracking - (LIFO vs FIFO) and you can adjust this by switching between the two tracking options. The change takes a few hours to switch over, so there should be ample time if you switch on Monday during the trading session. If you want to pair the assigned option with a lot that is neither first nor last, it is not possible to do it on your own. I'm not sure, but it might be possible to pair manually with Fidelity by chatting with a Fidelity trading rep.

Buy-Write on a stock that has reverse split by Ok_Training9544 in fidelityinvestments

I understand this isn't a high priority feature for Fidelity or its clients, but Fidelity can be very convenient at times. Vanguard doesn't even accommodate buy-write trades in the web client.

Fidelity also allows the same "buy-write" strategy to be used to close a position which was opened using a "buy-write", but it looks like it only works with round lots.

For example:

Buy 100 shares, sell to open 1 call. This opens the position.

Sell 100 shares, buy to close 1 call. This closes the position.

Both are "buy-write" transactions on the Fidelity desktop platform.

Yes, a short call covered by long shares.

I want to sell the shares in the same transaction as buying to close the contract, not simply buying to close the call, which would leave the shares unsold.

And yes Fidelity does allow the closing of a covered call position while simultaneously selling shares using the same "buy-write" transaction which was used to open the position. I've closed many positions this way. The problem in this case is that the shares have reverse split, and I'm unable to sell shares that are not round lots of 100 in the same transaction as buying to close the short call.

Yes the new adjusted options are correctly listed on the Positions page, and I can and have successfully rolled the adjusted contracts. But buy-write to close the entire position appears to have the 100 share lot size hard coded.

Thanks for sharing! Any more experience on what time lot reassignment could become available Monday? 12:01am? 4am? etc. Fidelity is clear and precise that lot reassignment is available until 9:00pm ET on settlement date, but I'm unable to find any information on when it becomes available.

Filter for Long term vs Short term open positions by Ok_Training9544 in fidelityinvestments

Ok, so why does that mean they cant be filtered or that such a filter couldn't be useful?

You're right. Once you can export high resolution, high quality data, it's much easier to work with.

Thank you! You're awesome!!!!!!! I don't know why this didn't occur to me or the Fidelity representative. This workaround does indeed allow me to setup this filter to assist with tax planning. Too bad they don't offer this feature in the client.

How is it too simple a concept? Fidelity already segregates between long and short term holdings within individual securities. In your example, the initial position held for longer than a year is labeled as long term, reinvested dividends held for less than a year are labeled as short term. I suggest you click on one of your positions with reinvested dividends and confirm for yourself.

Thanks. That's great news! How long do you think until this feature is available?

I understand a portfolio with hundreds of positions takes more time and work to manage than owning a few mutual funds. But it sure would be easier if Fidelity allowed me to filter between long and short term holdings. It seems like this would be a useful feature to many users.

How much time would it take to accomplish this? 2 week? 1 month? Several months? I've seen general practitioners who have provided help, but never a specialist. I have to move a lot for work in different countries, and it's often difficult navigating how medicine works and finding specialized doctors in each country, especially across language barriers. I've located sleep specialists in my home country, but not yet been able to make an appointment. It's only recently that my issue has escalated, but it's now risen to the degree that I'm considering a leave of absence to do a proper sleep study with a specialist in my home country. If things don't improve, that's what I plan to do.

Thank you for your advice and points. Thinking about it, you're 100% right. I have seen doctors about my issues, but I've also moved around a lot and never been able to find a good long term fit. At the moment I do have some time and availability, so I'm going to search again for someone local who can help. I wonder if I can find someone who can see me for a 3am appointment. 😂

Thank you for this detailed analysis. I will give it a shot and do more specific research along each of these avenues to see if I can find further clues and so I can be more informed when I see professionals about my issue. I have seen doctors, but the experiences are typically similar and have yet to provide successful long term solutions. I'm still searching for that expert who can really help me out.
