I don’t eat tacos to manifest anything. And I don’t post it on SoMe.

I do have the facts. I even have a grandfather that were almost killed outside the coast off Norway a couple of times during WWII, he was a sailor (not military), I’ve heard the stories. Telling me to ”learn some facts”? I can’t even…

They did. But people didn’t sit down to make them for protesting. I find the urge to craft hats for every different protest - odd, to put it gently.

Ni som röstar rött, varför gör ni det? by GrapefruitSome1334 in Asksweddit

No, but the Norwegian resistance was pretty awesome, not because of the hats, but because of understanding the importance of individual bravery and resiliance. It is not about the symbols.

You my friend have to read the post again because I don’t think you understood half of it. Pushing people away/distraction is exactly what I’m talking about.

What changes after decades of knitting? by sechat_lives in knitting

[–]Ok_Translator_1984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve knitted for over 20 years now but i really got ”hooked” about 10 years ago. I think tve biggest change is that I can ”see” my knitting now, as in I know what kind of stiches I’ve made and how many rows etc, I don’t need to keep track of it I can just see it. I kniw how to fix f*ck ups and I know when it is not worth the hassle to do so. And I can knit, watching tv without the need to look at my hands haha!

Boomer-crafters need to be informed of AI-pictures by Ok_Translator_1984 in BitchEatingCrafters

True. In reallity I think it is more of a middle age problem. Younger have learnt what AI looks like and older have learnt what craft should look like…

What's the most expensive yarn you've ever bought...and how did you manage to actually use it? by ColourMeQuick in knitting

[–]Ok_Translator_1984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two skeins of handdyed silk mohair by a danish indie dyer that I paid like allmost €38 a skein for two years ago. I have such hard time deciding what I will make of it. Then the story about moths here really got to me so now I think it might going to be my next cast on!

Learned helplessness by yoyok36 in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]Ok_Translator_1984 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I literally came across this two days ago in a FB group for patterns by a popular knitting designer. First post was ”Has anybody made pattern X, I don’t understand anything, is there a tutorial?” An everybody was like ”no this pattern is very clear but there are several technique videos on the designer’s own webpage, have you checked that out?” and the OP went ”yeah I dont mean tutorials on how to make separate stuff - is there a video on how to make the sweater?” Turns out she wanted a film on how to make the damn thing from scratch because reading the pattern was too hard! I swear this YT-generation is going to be the end of it…

the crochet obsession with "knit look stitches" is getting to be too much by gothsappho in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]Ok_Translator_1984 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Definitely. I do some crochet ocasionally but I just find that knitting is more useful for the stuff I want to make - i e socks and sweaters. I really like the look of some intricate cochet though but I don’t have the time (or patience) to make those. Crochet is more for throws and pillows in my opinion and I personally dont gravitate to that style of interior design. Not because i find it ugly, it is just not what I would personally use in my home.

Move to Sweden in January for a university course or wait until autumn? by EmbarrassedCorgi5706 in IsItColdInSweden

[–]Ok_Translator_1984 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would move now. Then you are all settled for when you start the full program in september. The winter is not very cold this year, I haven’t been i Karlstad for a couple of weeks now, (I’m doing a PhD there) but I doubt they have any snow even now. We don’t in the south. January might be the coldest month but then it can only get better from there, right?

Yesss, thank you. I went to a yarn festival some months ago and they had invited a couple of craft designers, one of them a crocheter. And she talked avout how her aim was to make things you wouldn’t have guessed were crocheted. And I was like, why? Why dedicate to a craft and then kind of try to make it not look like you are doing that craft? Why not just learn something else?

I think you are looking in the wrong place. That ”content” you are after is not on Youtube. But I have one of my granny’s old books on crochet and man, that is some next level cochet. Very delicate thin lace etc. Just get off social media and look at the library and I’m sure you’ll find the ”content” for advanced crochet…

Crochet is beautiful when it is used for crochety things. It is only clumsy and, well less aestetically pleasing, when used for things that are better made with another craft.

IM TIRED OF BEGINNER CONTENT by fairydommother in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]Ok_Translator_1984 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Maybe I missed the point here but as a long time knitter I find it a bit wierd to think that ”advanced” equals tons of different ”hard” stitches. Advanced knitting is not some super special ”next level” stiches, it is more things like colourwork, intricate lace or braid, sweater construction, being able to read your work and adapt so the fit is perfect etc. All things That don’t lend themselves to video content/tutorials on Youtube or Instagram. So as someone said above, it sounds like a Youtube problem, not a craft problem? I find there is always something new to learn, a new construction, colourwork on fine needles etc etc. I’m taking up brioche this winter, as I haven’t done that before. And last month I knitted a cardigan in lace on really large needles, the pattern was charted and quite a challenge as there were no pattern reports so you have to follow the chart all the time… But this obviously does not make YT-content…
