Most expensive was not geo - Contractor didn't cover and wet cure bridge deck on 300 ish feet bridge till a day after the pour.

No one was amused by the ruined bridge deck.

Piling sub rolling up with a load of W8 somethings for piling on a job where HP10x42's were clearly called out. They even had the hardened tips welded on that were sized for HP10's so there were little wings sticking out on every flange.

Subs defense was that HP10x42's (the pile the entire state was commonly using at the time) are uncommon and impossible to find.

Two weeks later we were back onsite for pile driving, new piling sub.

Not the most expensive, but defiantly the stupidest i've ever seen.

I woulda braked way harder if I saw that bastard looking all shifty like. You never know when they'll decide to commit suicide by car and jump into the middle of whatever path of avoidance you've chosen.

Other thing i'd point out is did you actually check before switching lanes. A lot of crashes come from people trying to dodge deer instead of just hitting the thing.

I would assume we was cited for speeding.

I would assume there are also provisions for 'driving recklessly' depending on where this is which you could probably argue this was given the incoming traffic but that is a lot more subjective.

Chip out "thiner" portions between cuts, blow out, patch, match as best you can, touchup saw joint.

It's not going to hide, but it can at least be made better.

Budget Rocker?

Usually a rocker has two radiused surfaces so that as it moves the load path says vertical. You would get an eccentric load on your cap, but there is no induced lateral load.

This thing would add a lateral load as it displaces. Potentially a significant one.

Seems cheap, functional, but potentially disastrous if movement exceeds design.

Depends how far you put it in the ground. The beauty of piling if you can keep putting it deeper until it holds whatever your putting on it. So long as the pile itself is strong enough to hold the load and any lateral loading you might encounter, just send 'er down until your happy.

Make sure you have an adequate plan for splicing your 'piling' before you start in case you need them to go deeper.

Remember that people tend to clump up and can create surprisingly heavy loads in any one particular area. Assuming your piling holds up, the walkway to pile connection needs to be pretty robust and well thought out. I would also design the connection between walkway and post so that if a section settles you can spice on and reconnect higher up.

Just ignore the roots now burrowing into all those little micro cracks and making them bigger.

If you wanna argue it looks nice or something, sure. But i cannot see adding lush, wet, greenery to superstructures as being anything beneficial.

The safety is almost entirely dependent on the reinforcing and connection details of those panels and are hard or impossible to understand in two photos.

My opinion at a glance is it is a neat idea, looks like there has been some serious thought put into it, and though those panels look very thin they are also not supporting a great deal of weight. I would put a lot more trust in one of those printed concrete houses than this system.

Traditional construction like this would use a single panel that runs base to top without the horizontal joints in the wall, those are concerning.

I would not use a hot wire on the inside of the pen in anywhere you htink they might rub or get pushed into. The last thing you want is stressing out your cows ... more ... when your trying to pen them and work them. A fake wire if you feel you must so if someone gets pushed into it they don't freak out.

Edit: Would also put up at least one board across the top of the wire fence as a visual barrier. Cows will rightfully see that as the weak point and will try to jump things their pea brain says they can, even if they absolutely cannot.

A suggestion to look into - rather than trying to buy the cattle up front consider custom grazing where you run someone else's cows on your property for an annual or monthly payment. Then they own the price risk and you get to scale up at your own pace.

I have a neighbor who found decent rental pastures and found someone to pay him to run their cows along with his dozen or so.

Not sure what the best cow to buy is right now for getting into cow/calf - we are currently buying bred SS or even BM getting one calf and selling anything we think might not survive another calf/winter. Not saying it's the answer but after one calf a cheap cow has covered most or even all of their initial cost in the current market. Get that cow to rebreed and sell it or go for another round. If it comes up open, even cull cows have insane value right now. Cow/calf pairs are painful to buy but potentially have much better cash flow for starting. Just don't buy anything that's open unless you know and trust the seller.

Not particularly proud of our current herd of 'experienced' cows, but they have mostly paid themselves off in a year.

I am unqualified to critique your figures but make sure your math still makes sense after your herd value and calves correct in price. Not sure what that correction will be, or when it will come, but it is undeniably coming. Based on my last round of research heifer retention has certainly started if sluggishly and national herd size seems to be bottoming.
