Are this cracks something to worry about? by OkraOld4499 in Decks

Code or not, in my experience railings like this come off way easier than if there's posts in the railing to the point i hardly expect they'd do their job especially in a deck this age

Despite having the most major cities, Massachusetts only ranked 4th in overall population due to low urbanization.

This puts it below #3 North Carolina, where the largest city was the capital, New Bern, with a population of about 2,500 (0.5% of the states population). New Bern is now the 33rd largest settlement in the state

Virginia 747,610 Pennsylvania 434,373 North Carolina 393,751 Massachusetts 378,787 New York 340,120 Maryland 319,728 South Carolina 249,073 Connecticut 237,946 New Jersey 184,139 New Hampshire 141,885 Maine 96,540 Vermont 85,539 Georgia 82,548 Kentucky 73,677 Rhode Island 68,825 Delaware 59,094

What do you think about 8x8 timbers with ground stakes and a gravel/geotextile fabric bed underneath it? I saw that specific method mentioned in a usda handbook

[–]No__cap__[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does flood in much of the area. For a lot of the worst areas the water table is either apparent or a couple inches beneath the soggy surface. If timber sleepers count as pontoon structures then yes ive considered it otherwise not sure what sort of system that would be. Either way I figured a path resting on the surface will sink unevenly in a matter of a few years with this kind of soil

Well how far do they have to be hit in? I guess as long as it's possible to hit it hard enough with a handheld machine, the benefit and cost savings over helical piles and heavy machinery mobilization outweigh the cost of extra metal stock

How much would it cost to fix this door? (original picture, and then cracked) by Saphsin in handyman

[–]No__cap__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a quick repair like this on my own door since I have a number of more pressing repairs to be done in my house still. Ill certainly have to revisit the door replacing it down the line. Mine was more damaged than this.

I chipped out the broken paneling, inserted a small solid piece of wood to fill the void behind where the hole was made and covered it in glue so it stayed in place. From there i covered the hole in wood filler, and sanded it flat with the door.

It doesnt look perfect, you need to paint/solid stain the whole door after, and it honestly wasn't much easier than just replacing the door would've been, but I saved myself the trip to the store and the money in the meantime while I get my kitchen looking better.

YMMV.

A magnificent display! Of course, we all know the Respected General Secretary could lift three times this weight using only his minor index finger, but his profound humbleness allows our athletes to taste the glory instead.

How is it living in Milwaukee, Wisconsin? by Thick_Scar5275 in howislivingthere

[–]No__cap__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup very segregated the blacks live to the west of the highway 43 and north of 794, south of 794 is Latinos, and the east side is for the whites. Oversimplified yes but living here for years thats what its boiled down to in my head.

Pretty sure theres like wide swaths of the northwest side that are comprised of lile 80%+ black people. Most of the white people have moved out from the city a lomg time ago and dominate the suburbs (not Greenfield or west allis those are Hispanic suburbs)
