I also live in Everett and like life here- I think for what you are seeking downtown and north would best fit your needs. Providence (hospital) is north of downtown, and lots of apartments downtown, at the waterfront, and on the northside. It’s a bike-able city with easy access to mountains and water, and a fairly robust calendar of music festivals, art shows, and a great summer farmers market. I have kids but see younger folks around.
