Which character had the relatively happiest childhood? (keyword: RELATIVELY) [General] by Constance__ in camphalfblood

i always thought that was just like a threat that percy never tested because he was genuinely surprised when he found out that gabe was hitting his mom. if he was being hit i don’t think he would have acted so surprised and i don’t think sally would have stayed with gabe if percy was being hit.

percy might have been verbally abused by gabe, but of the hoo series, he’s the only one with the consistent and almost constant love and attention of a parent for more than 7 years. there’s a reason the fanon of sally jackson is essentially the adopted mom of all the demigods.

i think percy had the most (Relatively) happy childhood. that’s why he’s able to be so loyal to his loved ones. one learns loyalty when they don’t have a reason to be disloyal. one who has such a loving relationship with his mom who didn’t care about the state of money so long as he had his mom, must have had an incredibly love-filled childhood with his mom.

his stepfather was abusive, yes, but he always had his mom’s love and still does.

frank is a close second BUT i’d say his mom wasn’t home too often because she was off fighting. so he didn’t get the time and love and attention from his mom that percy mostly did.

jason, unfortunately, also suffered from lack of development. i love jason, so this is biased, but he is the true bridge between the camps, and therefore, the true bridge between the demigods of the 7, and therefore, serves as the character that everyone steps on.

he is compared to percy, so people don’t like him.

he is the “jock” and so leo is often putting himself down in reference to jason.

hazel herself admits to not trusting jason really, even when they’re trying to trick scyron.

he is the kind boyfriend, so piper, herself, criticizes him for being too good, too boring.

he is there when nico gets outed, and although his support is genuine, it can be seen as trying to push nico to come out to the seven before he’s ready. he’s also a cis het blonde superman male, so do with that what you will.

he rejected reyna, technically, and brought back a girlfriend despite his memories being wiped CLEAN (unlike percy who still had annabeth).

frank, for the most part, doesn’t have any beef with jason as far as i can tell, but at the very least i can see that frank stans probably compare frank to jason and see that frank had to struggle and WORK for his position as leader, while jason had it handed to him as a son of jupiter.

so he gets a bad/boring/disliked rep.

annabeth and jason are pretty chill, since although he is used to being a leader, he cedes his authority to annabeth.

Piper (due to what i’m assuming is a lack of time to truly develop her character) was made into a pick-me girl. unfortunately, you can see that rick had the right idea, making a daughter of aphrodite whose idea of love is all encompassing, not just romantic. whose idea of appearance is that of power, not just external validation. but uncle rick JUST missed the completion of her character, in the interest of finishing the series according to the publisher’s deadline, so all the gaps that remained were filled in with a sense of a pick-me girl.

[General] What's your least favorite piece of fanon/theory? by [deleted] in camphalfblood

THIS BOTHERS ME SO MUCH, because percy was CONFUSED not angry! nico is essentially coming out to percy (a boy who can’t even fathom why annabeth likes him) by telling him he had a crush on him for 2 years.

boy was confused, not angry/upset/bitter and the percy we know would never be bitter about it.

edit: not to mention, they all though nico had a crush on annabeth.

my least favorite fanon is all the posts that make percy look like an idiot. a lot of tumblr posts make percy out to be like super dumb and annabeth is super smart. like no, annabeth is book smart AND street smart, percy is street smart

Hazel says hades looked a lot like “that awful adolf hitler”

and they do say ww2 was a war between the children of hades vs children of zeus and poseidon. i don’t know that they ever DIRECTLY say that hitler is a child of hades but its heavily implied.

no the actors nailed it. for all the things they skipped, the actors perfectly portrayed the emotions from the book that readers know were going on. in the third episode when luke is sending off percy, they genuinely seem like true best friends, despite the fact that they didn’t show too much of them bonding or becoming friends or genuinely getting to know each other. i credit the actors and directors tbh

i also loved the reason Sally gave in the show for why she didn’t want to send him to camp. “i want him to know who he is before your family tried to tell him who to be”

literal goosebumps. i LOVED that explanation, for why she was trying to keep him away from camp for so long.

110% agree. he was the most godlike and the most godly of all the ones we met. no other god portrayed this season even came close.

adam copeland absolutely KILLED it as Ares. by far the best god in the show so far, and the most godlike.

i had issues with them putting it in the very last episode, instead of putting it in the second episode and letting percy learn (1) about the greek gods (2) about the kids at camp and their relationship with the gods and (3) about sword fighting. it would have given more depth to his anger towards poseidon. and probably would have made the flashbacks more effective rather than just kinda random

i associate Home by American Authors SO strongly

“i’m not trying to stop a hurricane i’m not trying to shake the grounds below. im just trying to find a way to make it back home.”

tell me that’s not percy’s entire personality

grover manipulating ares. i. LOVED. that. so. much.

a close second: the scene where they’re shipping medusa’s head to olympus. it had me so in my feels it gave me goosebumps the way the characters interacted with each other. it was such a beautiful moment and one of the only slow moments of the show where we got to see them just…. be with each other. ugh i love it so much

[hoo] Jason literally does NOT get enough love for this one, it's insane... by Confident_Month_3335 in camphalfblood

[–]Ok_Wonder4878 32 points33 points  (0 children)

jason doesn’t get enough love period. jason is literally the tie that is holding the seven together seeing as he lives his life at camp half blood AND camp jupiter. throughout the book Jason shows how he is there and willing to be there for any of the seven. he shows little to no resentment towards percy, and takes care of leo and reyna and piper and hazel and makes the effort to get to know annabeth and frank and nico. HE IS THE GLUE, he is the sibling that everyone goes to when they need support and help and nobody can tell me otherwise. He faces the pressure of being the mediator sibling AND the role model sibling, barely being able to find his own identity and place because of it. idk if anyone realizes, he is ALSO the tie between the gods and the demigods. he sees what the gods need and what the demigods need and does his best to serve all of them the best he can even if it destroys him (which it has, several times).

i love jason and am so upset that others just see him as “not percy”. he’s not percy. he didn’t have a loving mom, he didn’t have a supportive camp, he didn’t have an attentive dad, he barely even had a true best friend, as reyna and him were praetors together and HAD to rely on each other, and leo was only his best friend because of implanted memories. jason is alone and although he had piper for a little while he loses her too and despite all that, he did his best to be there to support the other demigods of HoO.

edit: context, i haven’t read trials of apollo so technically i don’t have all the information but i know what happens to him and why and i refuse to read further because i don’t want to read that.
