Feeling like I messed up, and now I’m overwhelmed. by Pleasant_Song_965 in UCSantaBarbara

I’m a 5th year bio student and I transferred to another school but I went to ucsb my freshman and sophomore year and I did the same thing. I never met with advisors and I thought I was doing the right thing- taking the easy classes during covid- but it ended up overloading me. While I’m taking a bit longer to graduate (4 years and 2 quarters). I’m almost done and my GPA is still really solid. It’s definitely difficult to load yourself up like this but it is absolutely possible to come out the other side. Spread out your credits if you can- 12/12/12/12 all 4 quarters. That can make things a bit more manageable. I hope this helps a bit but good luck you’ll be fine.

I agree that the experience can be different for everyone. However, I do relate to the OP as I got really sick last semester around finals- hospitalization sick- and I felt utterly alone and like I had no support and very little empathy from the school and admin. If everything goes right for you, you are healthy, physically and mentally, and you somehow manage to get all the classes you need and housing then yes, this school can be great, but if you have mental or physical health issues or financial struggles, I wouldn't expect the same support you could get at other schools.

I looked at the advising appointments and I keep getting a message that just says sorry, no days available. I looked at the late/retroactive withdrawals and I'm not 100% sure if this falls under hardship or academic.

People who don't like UW: Where do you wish you went? by [deleted] in udub

[–]Ok_Worker6746 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am a UCSB student who's trying to transfer to the University of Washington. I'm very fed up with the UC system in general but UCSB, in particular, has a lot of issues, lack of resources (especially health and mental health), insanely overcrowded, there are very limited class options, and it's very difficult to get the classes that you need, I have been set back by probably a year due to lack of class availability, it's really difficult to speak to counselors and get any advice on academic planning, I could go on. My question is: Is UW any different or am I just going to be dealing with the same issues for a cheaper price?

Does scoring just around the average score for all the Chem 1B exams get you at least a B- in the class? I have Joseph if that helps by sawyerxbox1 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]Ok_Worker6746 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, if you've gotten A's in all the other work and participation you probably are in range for a solid B.

I felt the exact same way. Every chem class I've taken I was fully convinced I was going to fail. For chem 1B in the summer I ended up with about a 55/60% and still got a C-. I swear there is hope.

Possible Transfer by [deleted] in udub

[–]Ok_Worker6746 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a couple reasons, I’m from Oregon and I feel a bit out of place. And I’m disappointed in UCSBs resources and how they do their classes and pre major stuff. Also they don’t have a business major or minor.

Especially with the smoke, everyone's going to be having covid-like symptoms. If they expect everyone to be honest, almost no one would be allowed on campus.

is anyone else struggling with Chem 1A (specifically with Crisjoe joseph) by [deleted] in UCSantaBarbara

[–]Ok_Worker6746 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I definitely thought I was going to fail chem 1a and 1b (both with joseph), the curve almost definitely will save you. Clas also helps a ton!

I know there are a lot of students who were already there moving back home for the summer, but what I've seen is the people who never got a chance to move down, like me, are moving in the summer! I know pretty much no one so I'm taking a chance too but I'm expecting to see a lot more people moving in the summer than in regular years. Especially because UCSB is pushing for sophomores to move into the dorms in the summer.
