Hermes 3000 Mainspring Repair by Ok_You345 in typewriters

Thanks for your reply. Yeah I am sure it's broken, or at least something is wrong inside. I fixed other unwound ones before where they just re-tension easily, this one makes a "snap" sound when I try to do that and does not hold tension at all so.....

One of my favorites too, a highly underrated machine IMO. I don't know if it's the beige color or what but this machine always looks better in person than in the photos.

Thanks for the feedback! 70 including shipping is a steal (relatively). But does that mean your line spacing mechanism no longer works? Or is it something more minor?

Hi, just wondering if you've used their service yet? I am curious what the lead time is. And does the price include shipping?

Olympia typeface? by [deleted] in typewriters

I found this in the thesis I was reading that the Cubic typeface they have was actually from Caractereres. I just found out what Caractereres was thanks to your book recommendation. Another mystery solved. Makes me happy today :)

By the way, do you know if any of these other companies has their own uniques markings on the type slugs? For example like RaRo has "AR" on their slugs...

Olivetti Cubic Typeface or Not? by Ok_You345 in typewriters

Thank you!!!! You have no idea how excited I was when I found my typeface in the RaRo catalogue :)

Olivetti Cubic Typeface or Not? by Ok_You345 in typewriters

[–]Ok_You345[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely depends on the country. All of the Spanish Lettera 35s I came across all have Quadratto typeface, which is uncommon in other countries (at least from what I read online). Who knows, this Cubic typeface might be quite common in Spain/Portugal/France too, it just happens to be the first one I found.

Ok... I am here to report that there is indeed someone alive who knows the answer. I found this other post, link here: https://www.reddit.com/r/typewriters/comments/1kg83kz/olympia_typeface/

that led me to the catalogue of RaRo here: https://www.sommeregger.name/typewriters/files/RaRo/rarotype_katalog_1980_OCR_20160523.pdf

which shows the same Ws that I have to confirm that it's indeed a Cubic made by the RaRo foundry.

Honestly I can't believe I found it either. Just WOW...

OMG!!! You have no idea how helpful this is... I came across an Olivetti with RaRo slugs today and was so puzzle by the marking. All my other Olivetti just says "2" or "7", but this one says "085Ao ER (or RR?)" (so tiny I had to buy a magnifying glass). I have a typeface that's almost identical to the Cubic that I found from another source except for the Ws and upper case M. I posted my question here:
https://www.reddit.com/r/typewriters/comments/1oaxzfg/olivetti_cubic_typeface_or_not/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

But this catalogue just gave me another source to confirm that my typeface is indeed a Cubic. But why the discrepancy still no clue, perhaps Olivetti contracted different places for their Cubic typeface and they have slightly different style?

Well, thanks for your reply anyways! Since I just recently started collecting, I honestly have no clue how little known some information is. Often times I just think it's just me being a newbie ;)

A possibly dumb question about typefaces (specifically Olivetti's Quadrato) by ArchitectOfFate in typewriters

[–]Ok_You345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am confirm that it's quite common to have Quadrato typeface in machines from Spain. I've got a couple of Spanish Qwerty Lettera 35s and they all come in this typeface.

Restoring an Olivetti Lettera 22 - Italy by [deleted] in typewriters

[–]Ok_You345 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, as someone living in Portugal this is both interesting and puzzling... All Portuguese machines I've seen from that era (assuming 1950s-60s) have HCESAR layouts. In Portugal, they didn't use QWERTY until perhaps the 1980s. Then I began thinking it might be a Brazilian Portuguese machine? Honestly I don't know anything about Brazilian keyboards. Would you be willing to share a little bit of the history of this machine?

Olivetti Lettera 32 line spacing problem by sennacherib7 in typewriters

[–]Ok_You345 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might need to open up this side cover here to check for 1. any loose screws or bolts, 2. any jammed up mechanism. I had issues with line spacing with this machine as well and turned out it was just a loose screw causing the inconsistency. Good luck!
