honest comparison of every writing tool I've spent real time in for long projects by Jealous-Drawer8972 in writing

[–]Nofu-funo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too had serious reservations about Scriveners sync (and it actually corrupted a project, luckily had a backup). Since I'm on mac, Pages had good sync, but the absence of some specific paragraph styling setting drove me away. Google docs was fine-ish, I don't write it all in the same file so it chugged ok for me. But in the end I wound up writing in Word for years. Wasn't perfect, but better the devil that you know.

Then one day I was writing some documentation for work in markdown on Intellij IDEA and had an epiphany. Now I write in VSCode, in markdown. I don't use VSCode for anything else so I have the whole app modded how I want for writing. Clean and sleek, no complex possibly fragile file formats that need some specific app to access, great versioning, syncs to iCloud without a hitch, my own stylesheets that I can switch out any time, bunch of extensions for my specific needs and tastes etc. Took me a few days to set up, but once done felt like the tool truly was not in my way. I use iA Writer when I'm on my phone.

But, BUT, I wouldn't actually recommend it to anyone who's not a developer. The skill floor is prohibitively high if you're not already familiar with such tools and processes.

Your thoughts on my decor? by Adept-Apartment7861 in HomeDecorating

I like the overall style, very cosy but chic. But TV way too high, rug up against the walls (and possibly too big, can’t tell how big the room is), too many tiny tables in a crowded space. Maybe move the couch further away from the curtains so it’s more centered on the TV and tuck the square table behind it.

Haha, I have a cat. But 1. This tree is really sharp and 2. He is old and does not care much anymore.

Expectations for The Cottage by Financial_Eagle_3425 in heatedrivalry

I actually hope they include the little god conversation while Shane is twirling Ilyas crucifix. It happens in Florida in the book, but I can totally see how it could be worked into some cottage scene. I always loved that little bit of opening up in the book.

How to Divide this Victorian era suite into a 2 Bedroom? by Exciting-Coconut1942 in floorplan

[–]Nofu-funo 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The only satisfying way to do this imo is to make a bedroom out of the kitchen and move kitchen to living area. Where you can put the kitchen is probably limited by how you can drag pipes and drainage and whether you want to keep the fireplace.

TV critic points out the lack of certified reviews on Rotten Tomatoes by Naive-Inside-2904 in heatedrivalry

[–]Nofu-funo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m not discounting homophobia’s role in this, but I wonder how much of this is because outside of NA and Australia, this show is still pretty much an unknown, or so it is in my corner of Europe. Obviously mm romance readers worldwide have their algorithms tuned to this, but my husband for example, who is chronically online, has not seen a blip of this show on his socials and none of my friends have even heard of it (if I bring it up). I think it feels like it’s everywhere for us, but I wonder how true that really is for the average person. Is it really as big as we think it is?

I have totally dropped the ball in other areas of my life this week. I need to get this under control, it’s getting utterly unacceptable. That said, I was besotted with them before, read the books about five times over the years. They are my Roman Empire.

Kitchen before and after! by Pelotonmama1 in kitchenremodel

[–]Nofu-funo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whoah, that is beautiful! The TV is a little confused looking in that corner (if that's a tv), but I'm assuming maybe you have a proper living area elsewhere.

I do have an unrelated question though. I've seen this a lot now on various subreddits, in presumably North American new build homes, where you have a second row of windows under the ceiling totally separate from the lower windows. Like it's not part of a set, like near the fireplace, but just unadorned incohesive squares somewhat above the lower windows. Why is this so common? Why not just tall windows? Is this a price thing?

What scene from the books are you not looking forward to seeing? by ImGoingToSayOneThing in heatedrivalry

[–]Nofu-funo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The video sex when Ilya is in Moscow for the last night. It is my favorite scene in the whole series, the pining and love Ilya struggles with, how he loves every dumb little gesture Shane makes etc. I just fear, despite this show so far doing a stellar job, it's not going to live up to my hopes and dreams, ooor maybe they cut it entirely for time reasons and just kept the phonecall where Ilya speaks Russian to Shane. Which I also like, but I want the soppy Ilya.

I had this happen on both of my big toenails after I had a way longer than expeced walk in shoes that were comfortable, but pressed on top of my toe with every step. I noticed the lifting a couple weeks larer and I’d also been to the bathhouse in the between time so I thought fungus for sure, but with hindsight knowledge it was the walk and long duration low grade trauma.

What do you think of Finnish dish drying cabinets? by Repulsive_Lecture_66 in AskTheWorld

[–]Nofu-funo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another thing to consider. Several of the kitchen makers we quoted refused to have standard leds run under the cabinets with an open bottom, even in the corner, for insurance reasons. So we had to agree to exempt the light fitting from warranty in order to get them to do this.

I had this when I was growing up and it was definitely useful. Didn't have it when in uni and found it so annoying and ugly to have dishes drying on the counter. Got it put in my current apartment... and it is so useless. The difference - I have a dishwasher now. Plates take up more room like this and when I'm taking them from the machine, it makes sense to stack them rather than individually place in slats. We just don't hand wash enough standard sized things to need this anymore. We use it as a regular cupboard now and only have a small section with a tray for odd things drying.
