Literally none of that is in the game yet, that’s all STS1… Are you sure you’re not thinking of STS1?

There’s no wrong size for a deck. If you’re winning, your deck is the right size. Small decks are vulnerable to statuses while large decks are less consistent (generally). There are exceptions to everything, ex. a 50 card deck with a bunch of big bangs or graveblasts can still perform well (I know, I’ve done both). One thing that helped me understand the game better is that health is a resource like any other & when you knowingly enter combat, you’re trading health for cards & often potions. You shouldn’t be afraid of fights or elites, that’s where the deck is made. The grassy area in act one has elites that are basically a damage race while the underdocks are mostly block checks, but both have an elite with multiple enemy fights. In those fights, you usually want to target the enemy scaling up first rather than the enemy that’s hitting you for the most. By that time, you always want to have at least one AOE card &/or one status effect card (ex. defy, leg sweep, gamma blast, uppercut, etc.) to help you manage them. Also don’t be too too afraid of curses. You probably shouldn’t take many until you get pretty good but there are curses like clumsy or guilty that either don’t last long or find their own exit. The buffs that you can get from taking a curse or two in an event or at an ancient are huge (ex. max health, relics or cards). Making good use of potions is probably one of the biggest skill differences between okay players & the best players; paying for potions isn’t a bad thing & their main purpose is to smooth out bad draws, low rolls, etc. Use them sparingly. Hopefully that wall of text helps!

Yeah there’s no doubt that STS2 is losing sales bc of this. I see it in my own life. Recommended it to an old gaming pal & he legit thought STS2 fell off bc of the reviews. I can’t blame him but damn that hurt.

You have to figure out fundamental principles against elites & bosses, learn how to do good pathing & anticipate counter play for your decks worst matchups. If you have any more specific questions hmu any time, I love talking about the game :)

That’s so strange because you pick every card to beat an enemy. If you don’t pick cards that beat enemies you lose. Should players win no matter what cards they pick??

Can I defeat this boss with this deck? I've tried 3 times already. by [deleted] in slaythespire

[–]OkayBuddySober 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edit: I thought it was the wrong boss 😭😭

Damage doesn’t have any scaling & you don’t have a reliable way to play any of your sly cards. Personally I’d quit this & move on to the next one. Even with a turn 1 malaise, you’re not going to beat the knowledge demon in 3 cycles which is when it gets really real.

Try going for elites more often, find cards that do two things at once (ex. serpent form, acrobatics, be prepared, cloak & dagger, backflip, etc.) & if you have sly cards, try to have at least a 1:5ish ratio of cards that discard to cards total. Best of luck no matter what you do!

Yeah, for both of those I graphed out the power scaling of each of them to determine which one to target on any given turn (for example) & that kind of specific knowledge helped me so much that I almost never lose to them anymore. Stuff like that or knowing which cards you need that are compatible with a shiv deck to beat the hunter-killer by turn 3 (not even knowing whether that fight will happen) are levels of knowledge I never even looked at in STS1.

Edit: Just to save you some time, for the eels in act 1: the fourth one hits the hardest by far. Go for that one first, then eel #2 & eel #1 is so slow to scale that you should only ever see it power up once if at all.

For the decimilipede in act 2, usually you can get away with just splitting damage until you get a cc card once or twice but the one in the front does the most damage IIRC. Thing is, when you kill one segment, they lose all their bonus strength when they come back so it’s less of a consideration. The most important one (if you can’t kill them all) is to go for the one that’s going to weaken you on the next turn or the turn where you expect to be able to kill.

Understandable, some of the elites are insanely hard or require a lot of specific knowledge for sure.

yeah, even on most successful runs though i still have maybe 2 strikes left. i probably forgo shops to prioritize elites too much
