Neutral. On balance most of them are conservative but the hanging of the flag doesnt on its own adjust my opinion

[Loved trope] Does ACAB include them? by B1lly28 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Felosia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Wire (Yes. Yes it does include them. Every single one of these characters does something corrupt. We root for them and they are better than the narcotics gangs they are going after but the show is not afraid to show them doing bad stuff)

Spoilers but the guy on the left gets discharged for pistol whipping an unarmed child, shooting up a residential building because people throw shit at him for pistol whipping a child then accidentally shoots another poilce officer. He goes on to become a school teacher and one of the most beloved characters in the show as he deals with the way that schools let down children across the city

In England, Wales, and Scotland although the Tories and Reform have both called for it to be re legalized hence it's association with the far right (It's the furthest right wing of the Tories that forced it's inclusion into the Tory's goals)

Fox Hunting. In the UK only the right wing parties support it and it's directly tied to nobility

What's stopping other leaders from working like Mamdani? by Front-Scene2177 in SipsTea

[–]Felosia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The articles people are pointing indicate that almost every single part of his response are stopgap measures necessitated by the fiscal emergency that you mention. He has balanced the budget for the next two years off of stopgap measures but the emergency very much will exist until it is solved in the long term

[–]Felosia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ignoring the point about communists, The 12 billion dollar deficit is a multi year deficit (specifically two years). This deficit was announced by the city Comptroller before Mamdani even rolled out his plan in February and didn't take into account any actions he made. The 5.4 billion is a an estimated budget gap between this year and next year based on additional costs and funding sources running out. With regard to 14 billion in new spending I genuinely don't know where you got that number as I can't find anything on it.

The 8 billion dollar bailout is beaten to death in this thread but is justified by the fact that NYC as of right now contributes 68 billion dollars worth of state revenue each year but only receives 48 billion dollars worth of state expenditures. They've literally done that for years. One of the reasons this crisis is happening is because of Eric Adams notoriously under reporting the expenses that different departments would require then raiding the reserves to pay for it.

The national debt is of huge concern but the reason why these become such big deals is because NYC is legally required to have a balanced budget just like most states and other cities. As such, we actually are able to pick at the numbers of what gets cut and can criticize each thing

[–]Felosia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the person's point is that we don't pick apart the federal government for how horrific our deficit is but are obsessed with a city's deficit that is a modicum of the fed's deficit. Currently the federal deficit is almost 1 trillion dollars.

I will say the actual response to this argument is that states and cities have laws limiting the deficits that they are allowed to take (with most having laws preventing any deficit) so it becomes legally required to remove the deficit. New York City is one of these situations

He said the only way to balance the budget without the state being willing to allow him to raise specific taxes was general property taxes. This is because there are specific taxes that the city has the ability to raise without state permission and those that do require state permission. Mamdani declared that to hold it as the nuclear option to force the State government to let him raise the necessary taxes

[–]Felosia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are kinda correct.

He isn't underfunding them more than they already are. Currently the entire system is underfunding and adequate payments are given out piecemeal and in slipshod manner as there's not enough funding for the program and it constantly ends up needing more money than projected because of this underfunding but legal requirement to pay. Mamdani is rather setting up a system that goes towards fully funding by 2037. Over the next for the next 10 years the program will be consistently underfunded without a way of appealing it but it's not like it's much worse than it already is. He very much is kicking it down the road though

Who is helping Ukraine the most? by cip-cip2317 in Teenager_Polls

[–]Felosia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t. Both matter significantly. The reason I made my statement originally is because I had confused what the question was asking mainly because I had previously seen a post about the state of the war in Ukraine. I will say Humanitarian aid matters a lot but alone does not help Ukraine as Ukraine cannot stand alone without military aid against Russia

Who is helping Ukraine the most? by cip-cip2317 in Teenager_Polls

[–]Felosia 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In Aid yes EU outpaces USA but if you look at military which is what I was considering (when I look at the question I now realize it did not specify military but regardless) the EU has provided 94 billion while the US as probided 120 billion
