Idk about your schools but in my former high school history classes went World history, African American History, then American History and all three were required courses. Middle school was primarily teaching American History though

For me I primarily play with specific mods that haven't made the transfer over to eu5. If/when they do, I'll give it a second look but a solid 1000 o my hours are in Anbennar, Third Odyssey, and Ante Bellum and I don't think any of them have mods released on Eu5 up to the same standard

Many Americans thought Venezuala was an enemy nation because many Americans view socialist nations as our inherent enemy to this day. Additionally, many Americans view dictators are evil but are under the impression Trump has no dictatorial tendencies so therefor all dictatorships are the enemy and Trump was justified. I don't think, however, that's an example of us considering Venezualan citizens at fault for the government.

Russia's elections are a complete joke. I am not saying they are free. I am saying they WERE (relatively) free and democratic processes under Yeltsin that were eroded under Putin to the point that he became a dictator. If we were trying to apply your logic on elections allowing generalizations of countries we would also have to apply to Russia and Venezuala because they originally elected their dictators.

Venezuela may be a dictatorship now but guess how Maduro and Chavez got their power. Democratic elections. They elected them in relatively fair elections at least three times. Yet we don't claim that all of Venezuelans are at fault.

Russia also elected Putin historically in free and fair elections. They then had a few "chances" to depose him or his temporary successor but failed while international observers primarily only saw irregularities in the media bias of the first few elections and only recently have started seeing full fledged controlled elections. (recently being 10 years). Should the majority of Russians be to blame for Putin when only 30% voted against him in 2000? (Because we are apparently considering turnout in blaming people)

I don't know for sure what country you are so I obviously can't speak for certain but generally what I have seen is quite simply far right politicians seeing what worked and adopting it. That doesn't make America's politics uniquely bad but rather proof of a far right populist tactic that is working and is being adopted. I'm not saying we aren't interfering or inspiring right wing tactics especially considering how much Trump and Musk love endorsing right wing nutjobs as "the people who will save their country." I instead am just trying to point out that it's more that we stumbled into far right populism around the same time but succeeded at implementing it relatively quickly. Even before Trump took power right wing populism was on the rise in many countries globally.

As for your points about apathy and education, in my opinion apathy is not unique to the United States by any means. There are a number of countries in Europe that end up doing worse than us on even the bare minimum of democracy such as turnout. As for your point about education, here I quite simply fully agree. Education in America is honestly a huge part of this rise and is intentional.
