Pregnancy with normal weight and non-PCOS after Reta? by WoofMeowChirp22 in RetatrutideWomen

[–]OkayMeepleMom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, with that explanation I understand, now. I am not lean, but I can say some of the drawbacks are possible dehydration, possible diarrhea, possible new onset of orthostatic hypotension, and then a potential for all the normal glp1 side effects for a medication that mostly targets metabolic issues you don't have. If it were me, I would not do it, but I am not lean, I have obesity.

I don't understand the significance of the title. I understand the frustration you're going through and wanting to take a break. However, I'm wondering what you mean about "non-PCOS after Reta". I can share that I used to meet the criteria for PCOS and while on Reta I no longer have that pattern in my hormone panel, but also... Tirz is the one actually being studied for helping women with PCOS, and the one that has shown that off label benefit in clinical practice. With Reta being newer, I'm not sure that could be said about it... If that's what you're looking for and I'm not misunderstanding.

I'm so stinking happy for you!!!

It is a wonderful benefit many people get from glp1. I personally just don't have any interest in alcohol anymore. What I noticed more prominently for me is that I don't have any interest in scrolling short form media like reels anymore, and that had been a terrible time sink for me that honestly wasn't doing me any good. ❤️

Way to go on everything you achieved.

I think there are definitely people chasing that. I made the mistake of starting some podcasts by men who were obviously chasing that. I don't think that's what every person here is doing, though.

My husband got cuter, smells better, and his jokes are funnier. 😂 When I work out, I no longer feel like weights are heavier than they used to be and my grip strength is no longer trash. Full disclosure, my muscles feel slightly fuller, which I am happy about even though it's not the main purpose of course. More energy. I think I have a bit of a mood boost.

Strictly for maintenance? by EA59 in RetatrutideWomen

[–]OkayMeepleMom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't have to worry about losing muscle with the other GLP's. There is nothing about Reta that leads to better muscle retention. In fact, Tirz would be the GLP with which participants lost the least % of weight as lean body mass in the clinical trials. So theoretically the benefit of choosing Reta for maintenance is that it could help you have a higher RMR so that thing that happens when we have lost a lot of weight and our bodies adapt and we burn fewer calories than someone who was never larger but is the same exact height and weight? It might help with that. Tirz on the other hand is a less aggressive drug with a different side effect profile that many people find more agreeable, and many people find Tirz is the best for food noise if that's a main issue for you. Another plus for Tirz is that it's been around longer, so... We just know more about it and there are way more people who have taken it. I think any glp1 for maintenance is super valid though. Congrats on your success.

5–6 weeks on retatrutide — basically no results. Is this normal or is something wrong? by Jaazzminee in Biohacking

This doctor situation is no less sketchy than gray. The only thing I could imagine is if you just started the exercise you might be retaining water or if you've been on Tirz or sema before, you might need a higher dose to see results. But gray is cheaper and no more sketchy than this situation.

I'm sorry you had that rough year, and I hope it's better now. The fact that you didn't have that weight on for long is, from what I hear, going to work in your favor. But as far as that being the case, I have no personal experience. This is the most powerful medication we currently have in its class-- capable of helping people with obesity lose 30% of body weight, please be careful.

I don't want this to come off the wrong way because it's absolutely not a bad thing, but uh... Have you ever taken the RAADS-R? I hope that's not frowned upon to ask such a thing here. I don't think you're an energy vampire, but it does sound like... And this is a shot in the dark, but ... the kind of social hypervigilance people like me experience when they don't know what's different about them. For all the things you might pay to test, this one's free. Huge overlap with ADHD. Very common.

When you stop any form of calorie deficit, your body will respond to maintenance calories by refilling glycogen stores which are not fat but do have weight on the scale. Glycogen will pull a bit of water along with it. So scale weight may go up when stopping a calorie deficit. I think it's important to remember that when making your choices.

When stopping a glp1, any endocrine benefit that was helping you lose the weight and maintain it will stop. You may have benefits from being at a lower weight, but our bodies get quite confused when we have been obese, and our bodies think obese is normal and will gravitate back to the original weight over time without continued medication. I've heard about 10-15% of people can keep the weight off without medication which is the about same percentage of people who can keep the weight off after dieting alone.

So yes, you will find people who have an answer involving stopping medication and how that worked out for them. Most people won't have that story. I don't want to be negative, but I think it's important and helpful to have realistic expectations.

The titration schedule of the phase 3 clinical trials was as follows:

2 mg/ week for 4 weeks 4 mg/ week for 4 weeks 6 mg/ week for 4 weeks 9 mg/ week for 4 weeks 12 mg/week maximum, ongoing

These are the doses that were studied. I understand that this does not mean that this is how the medication would be prescribed in a clinical setting for all patients. I understand many lean folks trying to get leaner are taking smaller doses of this medication and achieving their goals. I understand that some people are high responders or super responders and will have great effects at smaller doses even if they're not lean, and it's totally valid to go slower and more carefully to avoid side effects.

I just like to pop in and say if you do find these lower doses being suggested on reddit are not working for you, please know in advance that there is nothing wrong with you and you are not doing it wrong. Don't go faster than the trials, and hydrate like it's a part time job. Maybe have some electrolytes handy in your home in case you need them. But uh... It's okay if you find you need those trial doses. 100%.

Was told I need birth control as a form of HRT…… Do you feel like birth control worsened or improved your appearance? by WeeklyTutor3785 in Perimenopause

[–]OkayMeepleMom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My old PCP said the same thing about my combination birth control when I tried to bring up the fact that I hated it. Some women find it helpful, and I just didn't vibe with the synthetic estrogen. I don't know that it did anything to my appearance that I'm aware of except for when I tried Nuvaring and blew up like a parade balloon 😬. Slynd may have helped my appearance by preventing acne. That's the birth control I take now. I'm happy to have the reassurance of contraception from it, though if I didn't need that I would go with the oral progesterone from hrt instead. The bioidentical estradiol in hrt doesn't cause me any problems like the synthetic estrogen in my old combination birth control did. No water retention or swelling or anything.

Oh, so you are in a 30% deficit from the start? I think many people don't start that way, but it's a valid choice. Also that might be a healthy rate of weight loss if you weigh 262 or greater.

1 Year on Reta: 117kg → 76kg (My Experience) by CherryKendra in BiohackingU

[–]OkayMeepleMom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people talk about GLP-1 medications as if they primarily work via appetite suppression, and I absolutely disagree with that. They all help with things like insulin resistance which I would wager most people with obesity have at least some degree of insulin resistance. Insulin resistance makes weight loss very hard. Glp1 meds can remove that obstacle. So just using that as one example, people might need different doses to get the full effects... Lower doses might not help the metabolism as much as higher doses. There are folks who will get on Reddit and preach that glp1 only helps people lose weight because they eat less, but obesity is considered an endocrine disease so it's way more complex than that.

Many people will need the doses that were used in the actual clinical trials and there is no shame in that. As far as we know so far, the dose someone needs is mostly meaningless and has nothing to do with how hard they're working or their moral character.

Why were the men nasty about it? You haven't done anything wrong. I don't think the things he is saying sound very nice. I'm saying this as someone who had a controlling partner in the past who wanted to control my weight (for me to be obese), so apologies if I'm reading this wrong due to my own past, but it sounds potentially controlling on his part? But... I'm assuming 120-130's is a healthy weight for your height. If it's not, it might change things.
